Critique and comment on our Ruger 10/22 stock (goes into prototypeing this week!)

Looks great, looking foreward to more show and tell. Would it be still possible to have rails at 3 and 9 where the three groves are, as an option, that way the rails wouldn't have to come off during disassembly. I have the Evolution stock, and there isn't much room on the bottom for a foreward grip and a flash light, if the dimensions are the same as your stock.

I had an idea, a little crazy but here goes: would it be possible to make the top rail assembly attach to the bottom, with the front being inserted at an angle into a grove or slot than rotated down and the back being held in place by a spring loaded button or something like that, like the receiver cover on the AK. Also if you could make a take down screw with a wing nut head, that way to tools would be necessary for disassembly and cleaning.

Its a little far out, but I think its an interesting concept.

Hey guys,

No exciting updates. Things are kinda at a standstill for the moment. Im working out the logistics of a shop move and some downsizing so this project hasn't gotten much attention lately.

The Mk. 4 gives me the school-girl giggles. I want.

What do you think about adding an incorporated fore-end tuner to provide some barrel support? Should be pretty easy to do, a threaded hole and a hex screw in the fore-end would be all you need.

So I am thinking that if you need someone to test one of your prototypes...

I suppose I could volunteer. ;)

The pics on the previous page look great! Can't wait to see the finished product.

more progress...:D im waiting on a few tools now.

BENDER UNIT I would like to give you thumbs up.. I like your design the ability to use an AR 15 stock & grip give the user a choice on changing stocks for a custom fit & looks. I like the design as it looks a bit like a G36C.. Your blue prints looks like it will let a person go with fixed sights or use the rail on top for a scope or red dot. and the rail below will let you use a a few options like a front grip, flashlight, or laser. how about an option to thread in a swivel stud on the bottom for a bypod?

How about dropping the side rails down a little bit lower this will look better & allow for install of Magpul Rail Panel. any thoughts on this?

please keep up the good work love your ideas

The latest version dosen't look anything like the EVO, I have one and this thing looks better, and I would buy this one to replace my current stock.

I would still like to see side rails as an option, it makes it more versitile. If that happens can you put them lower so they don't have to be taken off to remove the top rail.

Hey all,

Thanks for the continued interest, even though I'm not getting much done at the moment, haha. :(

As I said before, we're doing some downsizing and I've got some big equipment moves coming up in the next two weeks, which is taking up all my free time. So it could be a few more weeks till more chips are made...

I've been tossing around the idea of cutting the body out of a hard synthetic material instead of AL, hopefully cutting prices down further. Also, I've got some great friends in the plastic molding industry and could possibly look at a unit with an integrated buttstock (i'm thinking an A2 style design/profile) as well as units with the AR socket.

Any interest in that direction?

Thanks again everyone for the input, and sorry for the delays.

I would prefer aluminum. Polymer would work but not plastic. I'm not sure how cost effective a high grade polymer would be for a small run/business. Plastic will just feel like a cheap air soft. Naturally my concern when you ask about that is that the aluminum is costing too much.

I really do like the current design. It looks good. One suggestion though. a brass deflector for some peace of mind with those that shoot left handed. I'm right handed so it's fine the way it is to me :D. Hmm looks like the thickness of the stock and the beveled edges near the ejection port may work as a deflector.

The A2 stock. For something fast handling most would want a collapsible stock option. It keeps the bulk down and is more personalized if you aren't average height/size. Plus with .22LR most of us use scopes that have a range in the eye relief unlike the more expensive scopes. With a collapsible stock it's easy to get the proper cheek weld/eye relief by cheating and adjusting the stock to assist with CQB or for target shooting.

I have the Christie stock from 1022central.com, its made of some kind of plastic, its nice but it dosen't feel the same as metal and it leaves alot to be desired in the styling department. If you could provide some CAD drawigs of the new polymer stock it might be easyer to make a decision.
The Christie stock has some good ideas in it, like using nuts inside the stock instead of threading holes in the body to prevent threads from striping from over tightening.
Hopefully the polymer stock looks as good as the aluminium stock.

I've been following this project since the first post. I just went and reread the thread.

Wow this has really turned into something nice looking. It's come a long way from the original lego block look. This is one of the few stocks like this that I actually like.

I'm guessing the cost to make these is pretty high or the idea of synthetics wouldn't have been suggested. Keep in mind looks and quality do sell. Look at the ATR lowers. Make it right and make it look great. Look wise it's very good right now. If these are sold I may have to go buy another Ruger 10/22. something that I had no plans of doing at the beginning of this thread.

The pillars and free floating are paramount. A 10/22 with a bull barrel can be pretty accurate. The current forend design is excellent looking and seems to be a good design for free hand or from bags. The bottom rail even makes a bipod pretty easy to add on. A 10/22 in a stock like this would appeal to a large variety of shooters.

Any chance of seeing the front where the barrel portrudes? This needs to look decent as well. Also the barrel has to remain free floated.

i would like to see it as well, hope it's going to be a round hole whit space for bull barrels . not a square like other designs

also, if you whant to go with a disign that is cost effective, you could go whit a design that is compatible whit TIPPMANN'S A5 paintball gun accessory's (at least the stocks) they are cheap and ruged, i have used them in milsim scenarios for more than 5 years and they are tough! plus they have a lot of styles ready to buy plus you get to find them really easy in canada .
take a look at the following webpage for some of the stocks.
h ttp://www.opsgear.com/A5-Stocks-s/242.htm

for a 22lr , those would be perfect!
plus there are other brands like tippmann, rap4, specops paintball ....

these are pictures of paintball guns whits these stocks

I would still prefer a metal stock, it just feels better. If you have access to the plastic molding industry then you could make other parts like 6 possition butt stocks, vertical grips or rail covers and offer them with the kit as a package.

Since we're throwing out ideas and you have the means to make things happen, how about mags for the 10/22, polymer with steel feed lips like the BC ones, but without the curve, just straight.

With a straight mag it would be passible to mount a shotgun underneath it, specifically the 8.5" Grizzly CanAm is bringing in soon, or the one form Dlask, an adaptor to mount it all tougether would also be required.

What do you think?

Now thats an idea, even a 10-20 rd mag would be ok if it was straighter
And also if u make a polymer stock, how bout one like an mp5?? ;) They are the only rifle stock that actually looks right with the curved 25 rd mags
