Crown land stories ?

^ it is quite common. If he keeps his rifle unloaded while in the vehicle and gets out to shoot and does not use the vehicle as a rifle rest, and they are not numbered or maintained roads and are indeed bush roads/trails as you say, well............ it happens!

I'm not so sure it's that easy law wise either , I don't believe you can shoot 100ft from a vehicle on crown land. Or even drive down some of those trails. Some you can't even retrieve game with an off road vehicle

I prefered your un-edited reply! It was insightful and gritty. But I get the idea, many hunters do road hunt and there are ways to make it acceptable.
But good hunters get out and stalk.

It is illegal to hunt from a vehicle. For example, a vehicle may not be used to search for, locate, "push bush" or to flush out game under any circumstances. Vehicles may only be used to transport hunters, supplies or equipment to or from a hunting area

the answer lays within........................

You made it seem like it was legal to hop out of a vehicle and shoot as long as you are not resting on the vehicle...........
"May not be used to search" just because you hop out doesn't mean you weren't searching in the vehicle??

Will be hunting public land for the first time, worried about 2 things.

1) bullets coming from every direction
2)walking threw someone else's hunt and them being PO'd about it

I understand it's crown land so if someone walked by my stand I would understand.
Anyone have any stories of confrontations? Maybe you came across other hunters and helped them or they offered to help you ?
I evenly hunt crown and private land. Generally there is no or little hunters I encounter while hunting on private land, however; I've met many hunters on crown land. I had no issues (dangerous or PO'D) to date from fellow hunters on either properties. Regardless of what land a person hunts, always be safe where you shoot and of others that are hunting.

I'm not about to argue with you. In post #19 the poster asked how common is this. And I answered him with giving a scenario and saying "it happens"!
Just because you are moving from one hunting area to another does not mean you are hunting from a vehicle.

And in post #20 you made it seem like it is a perfectly common acceptable thing to do! It's actually not common among "hunters". "Poachers" on the other hand it is very common. And there are a lot of poachers.

I'm not trying to argue just trying to clarify incase someone else reads your post and deems it is okay to shoot once you get out of a vehicle.

One time my youngest son was hunting alone on crown land and downed a rather large buck. He forgot to bring the ramps that day. He was having a heck of a time trying to load it up and a fella with a heavy duty English ascent happened along and if it wasn't for him, I don't know what my son would have done.

Thanks for that two-dogs, heading out hunting on my own for the first time myself and hadn't though of how I would get the deer in the truck. Concentrating to much on the fact of having to possibly haul one several KM through the bush.

Jetman, what area of the province are you hunting?

well, I hope you get everything all cleared up to your satisfaction!
Let me paint you a picture. Let say Johnny Jimbob has been hunting in his favorite area all morning and hasn't seen a dam thing! He's wondering what the hell to do! He pours a cup of luke warm coffee from his thermose and decides to eat his lunch with it while thinking, a nice dark toasted cheese whiz sandwich on rye. Yeah, he thinks to himself, I'll move on over to my second best hunting area. Maybe the deer are over there, cuz they sure as hell ain't here! He gets going in his F-150, no make that a Jeep, I like Jeeps, Fords not so much. The rifle is unloaded laying on the seat, action is open, (it saves a few seconds, just in case);), not trigger locked, not cased cuz it don't have to be. All of a sudden he see's a fine looking buck standing over there bout 100 yards out in a clearing! It's bucks only, by the way this year! He knows he's on a non maintained trail and it's legal to shoot from. What do you think happens? Johnny is a dead eye #### cracker jack shot, by the way! He's out with both feet firmly planted on the ground away from the Jeep aiming free hand, the shot rings out, the buck is down, a instant kill, head shot! Johnny's got venison! Like I said, it happens!
Another picture. Jimmy Jetman has the same thing happen to him, no deer in his favorite hunting area, he has his coffee & lunch (balonie sandwich) and moves on to another hunting area. He's not sure of the rules and what's legal or not, so his rifle is trigger locked and cased in a locked case and placed behind the seat with the package of port-a-pottie bags on top of it. He see's a fine buck standing in a clearing and says out loud to himself, golly look-it that, I should snap a pic of that with my ph camera, It's gotta be ok to shoot it with a camera even if I'm within a 100 ft of my vehicle, isn't it? No steak for Jimmy! Jimmy doesn't mind! Jimmy's having a nice day in the bush and that's what counts for Jimmy.
Now, please go away and sniffle somewhere else. Oh gosh, I'm sorry, I see it's your thread! My apologies.

don't forget your rope and a man harness, if you have one! If you don't have one (after several km's) you'll have one next time!;)

Your story time still didn't answer if it is legal or not, simple question I'm asking. I know lots of people do road hunt out of vehicles, they also spot light at night and kiss their cousins, probably one of the reasons it is bucks only.

I'm sorry, I do not qualify to call it. I'm just an ordinary Joe. Again, I refer back to post #19 with the posters question and my post #20 with a scenario and the answer to the question.

Call conservation, they're the only ones that can answer your question as they enforce the regulations. 1-800-214-6497

let me try something here:

EDIT to:

^ it is quite a common happening. If he keeps his rifle unloaded while in the vehicle and gets out to shoot and does not use the vehicle as a rifle rest, and they are not numbered or maintained roads and are indeed bush roads/trails as you say, well............ I dunno ??? But it happens sometimes when moving from one hunting area to another! If the criteria mentioned is not met, then no, it's illegal for sure.

How's that for ya? I hope it makes better for you!

why don't you turn in all these people? There is a 1-800 number for it.

Actually I have 2 cousins that are sisters, and we used to do kissing cousins back when we kids in SK and did a little again a few years back! Nothing wrong with that, and it's perfectly legal;)! They're in Alta now so we don't see each other very often:(

well lets see how much longer this is going to go before it gets locked.....

remember gents every province has different rules, and no one is forcing you to hunt the same way they do, so do what you like as long as its legal.
