A few years ago my brother and I were deer hunting on crown land quite a ways north of Havelock, Ont. We parked the truck and went into the bush maybe a few hundred yards to sit around and also do some still hunting. A while later I heard a dog barking and it was coming our way. Then I saw a hunter coming behind the dog. Then I heard cursing, very loud. Something to the effect of "hey, we're driving deer, what the phuc are you guys doing here". As he got closer I could see the rage in his face. He was absolutely furious and was right in my face. I told him to calm down. I told him we were on crown land. We all have access to it. I told him we had no idea this guy and his crew were going to come along, just as he should have known there could have been someone else there. It almost came to violence until his buddies showed up to calm him down. We then left the scene and returned to our truck for a break. Not 10 minutes later 3 pickups showed up and...yep...here jumps this Ahole out of his truck and once again frothing at the mouth saying the same BS as before. My brother and I again rather firmly told him exactly what we told him before. This guy was DANGEROUS. And he had a gun????
Well he jumped back in his truck and took off. Then one of his buddies came up to us very calmly and respectfully and apologized for his buddy's attitude. Now get this! He said his buddy was pissed off because he had not seen a deer all week. We couldn't believe it. This guy was a hunter? That's scary knowing there are these types out there.
Having described this I have encountered many other hunters on crown land and have had nothing but great discussions ,helpful hints and just good all around camaraderie...probably like 99.9% of the times.
So enjoy crown land and just be respectful of others.
