I always thought the reference numbers was just to make getting warrants easier. I imagine that if a LEO asked a judge for an order to produce, and listed every single gun store in the country, they'd be laughed at. But if they could list 3 or 4 individuals or stores, it would be approved. That was always my theory on why they wanted it so bad.

Huh but even laws as written state you can mod a rifle to fit a mag, you can mod a mag to fit another rifle too so long as you are modding pistol mags to fit a rifle that doesn't have pistol mags of its own.

Its why we had STANAG conversions for the FAMAE and Swiss Arms rifles (when using non pistol /LARmags) or why people tweak AK mags to fit in Type81s or even all the mags we use to work in 5.56 Valmets

You can't mod the magazine, if you do so you are back at the 5 round limit for semis.

Don’t worry Shaun, you’re not going nuts. I added the bold after the fact just to highlight that part. Haha

I do agree with you though. I’m sure it’d make it easier to get a warrant to search store records with a reference number. This way a LEO organization can say “we believe *insert name* bought from stores A, B and C because these reference numbers. We’d like to see their paperwork.”

I'd prefer to have a FA, hopefully they add one. Maybe they can do both and have it as an option? I'm sure that even if they are considering adding one its way down the line

I just went to chamber checking like it is an MP5. Pull the mag.....Brass on the left.....Brass on the right.

I never expect to be 700 rnds deep, air full of sand and shrapnel, holding back the waves with my Crypto.

Just a note MP5s and AKS are stupid. Who builds anything without a last round mag hold open?
One was laziness the other a rifle for peasants.

The current manual of arms in some countries using M16FOW requires press check so FA is essential. The manual of arms of just smacking the FA after a ready is debatable.

That's why ambig non-reciprocating charging handle is an issue somewhat, the old simple KISS reciprocating right side charging handle in the original AR18 AK, FNC SG5### is a FA on its won.

But press checking itself became a thing because of the large number of worn out aluminium magazines that people do/did not know when to discard, and also the fact that AR mag is held by a notch so smacking a fully loaded magazine needs a bit of force and the feel of that subtle notch engagement ( the same for many plastic pistols ). This is generally not as much of an issue with 5 or 10 rounders or mags that rock in and are retained by a ledge on the back through a paddle release, like AK and G36.

So, for a recreational firearm that uses 5 or 10 rounders, the FA is not super critical because people can get away without press checking IMHO.

The interesting thing about modding magazines is by definition, to our law, modifying a magazine means making it a prohibited device. Not that modifying it makes it prohibited...

What is a prohibited magazine? One that holds more than 5 rounds.


There is no law that states you can not change the body or shape of a magazine. You just can't change it in a way that makes it a prohibited device (over 5 rounds)


Look into it. I read the law over and over many times to make sure I wasn't going to go to jail for crytpo smiles.
 
I understand that everybody wants this as close as possible to an AR - the problem is that if you do this, the chances of being prohibited are also increasing, not only in regards to magazine limit.

They banned atrs after specificly clearing them, didnt get in the oic yet the rcmp raided them out of spite. There is ZERO point in tip towing around these clowns or trying to appease them, buttons need to be pushed and lines need to be crossed or were gonna be stuck in the cuck closet forever
