Crusader Arms Crypto

i get that this is the crypto thread but gotta ask why the crypto is getting so much more love than the lockhart? both are ar-ish clone gas guns. both are seemingly made ok. they both cost about the same. both come from relatively un-loved manufacturers.

but the lockhart takes normal mags ...
Crypto takes less proprietary parts and can basically be customized just like that other kind of rifle that everyone loves but can no longer use.

If I recall, the Raven got quite a bit of love when it came out as well and still does, as it is a "safer" choice because it has an FRT while the Crypto does not.

the Raven is too proprietary IMO. I don't like how it can't take a standard AR15 BCG or firing pin or handguard or dust cover or charging handle. And it's not anodized and is just cerakoted instead. Compared to the Crypto which is basically fully AR15 parts compatible (including the mags cause it seems like it was designed that way as a gigantic middle finger to the government), it's far more attractive. And the Raven's proprietary parts are ludicrously expensive for what they are...

the Raven's FRT is also way safer cause it's originally submitted as a 9mm PCC and the 5.56 is simply a variant of it in its classification

As to your question “why” radium king from what I can discern from this thread so far the raven has a proprietary bcg and charging handle and some folks would like to use the ones they already have or choose the brand they prefer, I’m sure there are other considerations as well, thats just what has stuck out to me anyway. Edit to say datawraiths reply is more informative than mine and posted while I was typing or wouldn’t have posted heheh you snooze you lose

Exactly this. Along with the fact that Lockharts customer service was absolutely, ridiculously, terrible the one time I ever made the mistake of dealing with him, there's no way I'll ever buy a Raven.

The Raven uses a proprietary bolt carrier that is skeletonized. There have been broken BCGs. Main reason why I bought a Crypto instead of a Raven. Easier to find replacement parts.

Still waiting for more parts, but it's coming along. If it runs, it's gonna be sweet :)

Looks good! I keep wanting to buy one and try to make it as close as possible visually to an M16A1. Problem is I don't have any parts currently, so I've been pricing out buying a receiver set and trying to find all the parts and pieces. Would Numrich be my best bet for everything (minus barrel obviously)?

Does the TNA "Super M-Lok" handguard clamp on to the crypto factory barrel nut? Or must one use the included TNA barrel nut??

A picture of the nut after I fully backed it off to add a little blue loctite.

You are supposed to put grease on the threads (Aeroshell 64/33MS Grease) and not blue loctite. This helps prevent thread galling (binding) during installation and ensures easy disassembly while maintaining proper torque settings. You torque 3 times to 30ft-lbs and loosen after each time, then do the final torque (40–50 ft-lbs recommended). Blue loctite (like 242) is only going to last up to 150°C... And can interfere with achieving the correct torque.

Some friends and I out shooting Cryptos.
They do not like enhanced BCGs.
Looks like the rear of the enhanced BCG get hung up sticks to rear when charging the rifle
We did not shoot the guns with the Enhanced BCGs.
Enhanced BCGs that stuck to rear when charging
PWS
Lantac
BAD
Radian

All the standard shaped carries at rear of carrier worked 100%
