Hey guys !!!!

What is the best bang for my buck for .22lr PRS Style shooting compilations ?

Accuracy vs Price vs Out of Box setup etc.

Thanks guys !!!

All the best...

Bang for buck, easily the RPR22lr. You save money on rifle cost, magazine cost, scope base cost, mounting fore-end bipods and rails cost, cheek height adapter cost, trigger cost. It's not even close.

Everyone will point you to what they think is THE GUN. My advice is to go to a local PRS match and handle as many different guns as you can and try shooting different rifles. Any PRS shooter worth salt will let you try their firearm. I believe Lower Trent Valley Gun Club is one of the closest to you that hold Outlaw rimfire matches. I shoot at the matches quite regularly and if you let me know ur coming I will bring lots for you to try. I have several guns that vary in price from Low end of the spectrum to outrageous at $10,000 plus. Steve Barks, Tony Norman and Scott Harrison all shoot Savage bull barrels with Vortex Diamondback scopes I believe and they finished 1,2,3 and are amazing shooters with a really reasonably priced gun that regularly beat the open class. Just my opinion and Cheers and hope to see you enjoy this sport. Chris

I am at LTV.. lol.

Savage A22 FV-SR or B22 FV-SR is by far the best value IMHO.

You will need to find a solution for getting a good cheek weld and possibly length of pull. These both can be done with very good DIY solutions on the cheap. They ship with a rail, have flush mags (very good perk for PRS IMHO) and you have the option of a 25 round mag for those stages where 10 just isn't enough. The failure to extract issues that Savage is famous for is easily resolved with an additional spring clip installed over the first.

Slap on some Burris Signature Zee Rings, a Vortex Diamondback Tactical scope and you have a production class set up that will outshoot basically everything else in production hands down.

If you want to take the next level you can go with Tikka 1x or CZ 457. They will possibly shoot slightly better groups than a Savage... But PRS isn't shooting groups and I don't think there is much advantage to having the ability to shoot groups tighter than 3/4". A very poor Savage will be able to shoot 3/4" out of the box. If you get a good shooter.... 1/2" out of the box with CCI SV is absolutely possible.

The only reason I would go with a Ruger 10/22 is if you want to dump a bunch of money into customizing it to suit you exactly. The only plus for a Ruger RPR is because you have a bunch of Ruger 10/22 mags lying around so it saves you some money. They aren't terrible, they just aren't good out of the box and you will constantly be upgrading it.

Everyone has their own opinions. Mine come from my wife and I shooting ORPS matches this summer with Savage Mark II, Savage 64, CZ 455, Savage B22 and a Ruger 10/22 takedown. I've seen nothing but problems with anyone shooting an RPR but Ive never shot it myself.

I would go with a CZ or a tikka only because I know what kind of accuracy you can get out of them, I’m sure the ruger is a good choice to, and as mentioned above likely any part for a ruger will be cheaper than the CZ or tikka. However I do think tikka or CZ will be better over all build quality (fit and finish) that’s just comparing CZ, tikka and ruger centerfires rifles over the years.

TIKKA T1X MTR for the win! Sadly doesn't come left handed.

These events have been won by RPRs, Savage MkII and Tikka T1xs, along with a few other rifles. I'd rank them by budget. Best bang for the buck? Savage Mk II. Then the RPR - most adjustable for a perfect fit out of the box. Then the Tikka T1x then the CZ455/457s. The key thing is to get a great fit then try a bunch of ammo to find what shoots best at 50 and at distance (as far as you are able).

I'm no "fudd" but I have been shooting for a lot of years and have owned many rifles. Ruger RPR is a nice rifle, and they do shoot well; no question. I currently own 3 CZs (2 in .22 452 and 455); one lead to another. The fit and finish is extraordinary, the heft of the rifles let you know you shooting a rifle, not a cheap toy. Factory trigger is better than OK; but there are options to make them even better. Both are more accurate than I am; and on a good day, with the right ammo, under an inch at 100 is not uncommon; and these are stock rifles; one in walnut, one in beech, shooting off of Bipods. I have no idea how much better a tactical style platform would make these rifles; but I would suspect that for me, not much difference.

Can't go wrong with a Tika either.

I have the Ruger Precision 22lr and I'm having nothing but feed issues with the mag. It is very loose in the well and I have to push up on it while chambering a round. Bought 10/22 Butler mag, very tight fit but haven't tried it.

I shot one match of outlaw precision rimfire so of course that makes me a total internet expert. Some observations that I have made. The gun does not have to be super-duper accurate. The most challenging target I saw was a quarter inch swinger at 50 yards. At 100 yards I believe we were shooting a 2 inch plate.

So any of the above should be adequate. If the rifle is mechanically accurate enough to hit the target then it comes down to the skill of the shooter.

Now from what I have seen a semi auto has an advantage in this style shooting. Some of the stages I saw were like hit target twice, change position hit other target twice change position ect...

With the semi there is no need to change your eye relief as you work the bolt. The follow up shot is faster. The stages are timed 2 minutes and some are a real challenge to complete in that time. You get no points for the rounds that are not fired because the time is up.

A buddy who required an affordable option in order to compete.

I recommended the Savage FV for 309.99 from doctor deals.

Accurate enough to hit any target with quality ammo. Relatively inexpensive. The only thing it needs is an extra sling swivel to mount a bipod cost maybe 10 bucks. Fine for production division.

I’m going through this conundrum too. I’m looking for a new 22LR for target shooting. I’ve looked at them all (I think) and have it narrowed down to the 457 and t1x but can’t decide between the two.

There fit and finish on the CZ’s is second to none and I like the wood stocks - makes them seem kinda classy.

The Tikka has a great trigger and I like that they take most of the same accessories as the T3’s

Don't rule out the Anschutz, buy once - cry once, and there is quite a few on EE. Never owned one but from what I've read and researched, out of the box accuracy they are far superior to the CZ and Tikka.

There is one for sale I'm eyeing but when the time comes to dish out the cash and it's sold then it wasn't meant to be.
