I have not shot factory ammo in mine but I vouch for sub-MOA groups with handloads using Hornady 125 gr poly-tipped bullets and Re7 powder. Great little rifles.I own one and it will do 2" 5 shot groups @ 100yds with Czech surplus anytime with a 4x scope. No problem with cases chambering, sticking or extracting. Out of 200rds fired, two rounds had to be recocked, but fired the second time. Hard primers, but they all worked. I have a stronger firing pin spring, but with the low amount of recocking I never changed it.
.5" groups are attainable with handloads.
...Did you know that Savage is now making a 7.62x39 rifle? It's the Model 11 FCNS I believe, so you have 3 rifles to choose from:
Norinco JW-105 Bushmaster
CZ 527
Savage Model 11
I've read from others asking the same question that they will print 1-2 inch groups with factory S&B ammo and about the same with surplus. Did you know that Savage is now making a 7.62x39 rifle? It's the Model 11 FCNS I believe, so you have 3 rifles to choose from:
Norinco JW-105 Bushmaster
CZ 527
Savage Model 11
According to the Savage Arms site, it is actually a Model: 10 FCM Scout. Ghost ring sights. You would need a long eye relief scope for it since the mount is so far forward on the barrel.
And then there is the Remington 799 (i really like mine) and the Ruger M77. So that now makes 5 to choose from, not to mention the various AR-15 styled semi's made by Olympic Arms, Del-Ton Inc, and ModelOne Sales.
It's actually not on their website yet, but it's listed in the 2011 Savage book they just sent out. We probably won't see them in Canada for a few months, but they do exist. Curious if they'll fire surplus or not.
I'm getting a 16fcss, so I've been watching Savage models closely to see if anything better comes out. There are very few SS/DM .308 rifles, and luckily Savage offers one. I got their catalogue because I wanted to see if they'd put out something lighter, but all they launched was the Axis Stainless haha.
Holy Smokes!! Cool!! It's got the Accutrigger and the Accustock!!
I bought my nephew(12years old) a CZ 527 carbine for his birthday as his first deer rifle. It is one of the nicest modern made bolts/wood stocked rifle I have handled in a very very long time. It shoots S&B ammo into 1" at 100 yards and will shoot the surplus russian stuff in the blue/green boxes to same point of impact ans the hunting ammo and just as accurratley. We never had a misfire, though once in a while the bolt is a little hard to close due to out of spec surplus ammo.
This gun has beecome my nephews and mine's favorite rifle to go plays with to blow up water bottles ,great fun!!
The nephew can consistantly shoot off hand and blow up every 1 and 2 litre water filled bottle I put out at 80-100 metres!! Man this kid can shoot!! I put a Redfield 2x7x33mm scope in medium BRNO rings wich makes a great compact ranch/deer rifle!
If I was opting for a sighted gun I would pick up a Ruger and fit a NECG rear peep sight, or just order there new Scout peep, make a great gun!cfheers Dale Z!
BTW, I HATE the AXIS line!!! A friend bought one and it is quite a bit below the MODEL 11FXP3. Seriously, never thought it would happen, I am a gun snob!! I LIKE the accutrigger and the way it shoots. I did not like the way the AXIS shoulders, and although accurate enough (I couldn't get Federal PowerShocks to shoot much under 1" at 100yds while the wife's shoots a 5/8" group with the same ammo), I still like the better trigger. I would have to upgrade.
