CZ 527 synthetic in 7.62 x 39

You missed the point entirely as it realistically and ethically is a 200m HUNTING round. Shooting and plinking are entirely different and in that regard it has some potential past that range but is by no means an allstar medium or long range choice.

as noted it depends on what you wish to hunt.

triger on my howa is 1.9 LB
the extra 1.5 LB is the heavy barrel 20" variant... that being said, that's what i own and with a 3x9 scope it is 7.55LB so take that official stat with a grain of salt.
the light barrel is listed at 6.6 LB which is what .7 LB heavier then the CZ?

The set trigger can be adjusted down to 1 pound if I'm not mistaken, and it's still lighter and shorter. The Howa is an excellent rifle.

but is it really worth 1/3 more cost if you're getting the synthetic stock version as the OP is asking about?

Lets compare the CZ weight and size vs Howa

CZ
CZ 527 carbine 18.5" barrel 5.94LB (wood) 5.87Lb (syn) OAL 37.4"
CZ 527 LUX 24" barrel 6.9LB OAL 42.4
CZ 527 american (no sites) 21.875" barrel 6.41lb OAL 40.4"

Howa
Lite 20" barrel 5.7LB 39.5"
HB 20" barrel 6.6LB OAL 39.375" (what I own and have verified mine is 7.55LB with scope)
Hunter 22" barrel 6.1LB OAL 41.5"

So you get 1 CZ variant that a 1.5" shorter barrel and 2" shorter gun which puts you at about 4% energy loss on the cartridge vs the 20' barrel and 7% vs the 22" (optimal being 23" for a 123gr round, and yes I did the math, and backed up the velocites with this guy https://rifleshooter.com/2016/01/7-62x39-mm-russian-effects-of-barrel-length-on-velocity/) which doesn't sound like much, but as stated its already an underwhelming round. but the CZ carbine still weigh more then the howa light.

The rest are longer and heavier then comparable model howas...

As for the triger pull, howa is also adjustable from factory .The break is super crisp. there is no creep, the new two stage triggers they come with are fantastic.
In Fact its much nicer the the CZ americain i have sitting out on the table for the mother in law which actually is gritty on the "just as long as the howas" take up and comes in at 2.5LB (she is a lefty and likes wood)

your argument points against the Howas are pretty weak.
If you just like the CZ better then Howa that's fine, but in an apples vs apples comparison the only thing the CZ has over the Howa is a slightly shorter carbine size, stock iron sights
Is that worth the extra 30% cost... to me it wasn't. especially when i found out the high percentage of CZ 527's in 7.62x39 that cracked the wood stocks and the high cost of CZ rings and magazines that you need to get to go with the gun.

Cz rings are not any more expensive.
I actually like both CZ and Howa. I just prefer sights and steel magazines. As far as barrelled-actions. Both are excellent. In the end, you won't be disappointed with either.

^Do not know where you got the 5.7 lbs for the Howa "Lite".

The daughters Weatherby youth rifles are more than that, barelled action only, though!

is there a 'lite' designation for the Mini Actions? If so, I am interested.

And btw. the two stage trigger on the Howa/Weatherby rifles are not bad.

But the CZ's single sets beat them in every way possible. As mentioned before, not even comparable!

Cz rings are not any more expensive.

$100 CAD for basic med ones on amazon.
$118USD for leupold ones

even cheap tally rings are $87 USD

my howa came with pic rail... and for the cost of basic CZ (knock off of burris single screw cheapos) rings I can drop a set of leupold PRWs on mine lol.

The lites have been discontinued, much as the CZ synthetic stocked carbine with Irons has been ditched as well. Not enough market demand i guess.

Lites had a #1 barrel profile, the standard hunter is a #2 and the heavy barrel is a #6

I know they are out there... I looked for one when i was researching to buy.

As for the set triger... For the life of me I can't get the triger on the CZ american to set. I don't think it has it, its just a basic single stage that can be adjusted for leangth of pull and triger weight.

If I drop it below 2LB it breaks by smacking the side of the rifle rifle... if I adjust it so it doesn't creep it breaks when he you hit the rifle.

I Have it at 2.5LB and about a 1/4' triger pull to make it safe for hunting so it won't go off if you drop it on the butt stock.

up to 300m it is good enough to hunt animals up to 100kg

I’m confident most people would not chose the 7.62x39 for any 300 m hunting. I stand behind that statement. I guess you can shoot a moose with a .22 as well. Doesn’t make it my first choice. It is a bit exhausting fighting for common sense on here. Go shoot a 100 kg animal with your 7.62x39 at 300 meters and stop by the dollar store for prize on the way home...

How well do the Howas, and Ruger Americans handle steel case ammo?

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread is that the CZ 527 is specifically tailored to shoot steel case and surplus well.

Howa eats it, chinese coper wash is about 1.5 moa, barnauls SP is sub moa

Neve had feed or ejection issues

I posted a range report on my CZ 527 and my experience with accuracy using QD rings. Check it out:

https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...283-Range-Report-CZ-527-QD-Ring-functionality

Great little file. Certainly one of my favorites. Cheers!

That's not bad, levered QD is the way to as its easier to set it back to the same mount tension. Its one of the reason i own a lot of elcans lol, that arms mount is bang on the money to take off and put on while still maintaining very close to zero

Didn’t know that this forum was so tribal LOL. FWIW I previously bought a Russian SKS for a family member. I’d contemplate another but I fear that the lefty anti-gunners will include it in a future ban because of its “scary semi auto military” looks, hence the interest in a bolt gun in 7.62 x 39.

Same here
Got a scout Savage Axis 2 in 762.39 but the scout thing is lost on me. Anyone want it?

I own 5 different CZ rifles and all are fantastic. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the CZ Bolt rifles available on the market today.

I have had my eye on a 527 for some time but now I can’t find any of them in stock.

I’m kicking myself for not grabbing one a few years ago because they seem like good little shooters.
