CZ 858 VS Norinco M4

HB I really like my 858. So much so I am on the list to get a second one. I ended up kitting mine out with some accessories (do a search here and you'll find my review of items I got for it) and it looks more like a black rifle now - it shoots wonderfully and is very comfortable. I also liked it in the factory original woodstock configuration - that fit me well also and was a nice shooting exprerience. I missed the unaltered version so now I'm getting a the second one to keep original. I don't think you'll be disappointed with an 858.:)
Perhaps find some CGN'ers out in your area and maybe you can test one out.

Also, how bad is the original furniture on the gun? I want to throw the wood on there, any pics from anyone that has?

Here's mine with a real nice wood set I scored on the EE.

If you are considering the Norc M4, I would seriously consider both rifles, as you could get both guns for about the price of a higher end AR.

Both are fun to shoot, both guns have accessories available for customization, though I like my 858/58 as it is (wit the exception of adding the wood stock set). I have recently added an ACOG and a small rail with a light to my AR.

i love my two CZ858 , i was looking forward to getting the FSN01 or the T97 , if not then will get the M4.

So no one has any 858s in stock right now until a new shipment comes in somewhere? And with all the upcoming changes in gun laws, is their status as non-restricted being debated? Because for the price, caliber, price of ammo, field striping, etc, seems like one can't go wrong with it.

Other than Wolverine, whos carries em?

wolverine is the only one bring them in so if you dont have your name on thier list already then you can ask your local dealer if they are bringing any in, they too will be getting theirs from wolverine.

Right on. No word if the 858 been mentioned at all in this recent reclassificatin bulls***? Although this would all be speculation like everything else, just kind of curious.

From my understanding this model has been imported before from the same Czech supplier, so it's no different than the one's already here which have been approved. Should be no classification problems.

Hands down the CZ/VZ!

Here are "the whys":

-reasonable price
-reliable
-accurate
-light
-enough after market parts to customize just about any ways you want it
-ammo available just about anywhere
-cheap to feed
-easy to clean and maintain in any conditions
-comes with four 30 round mags
-can be fed with stripper clips
-parts are cheap and readily available
-shoots a big enough round to make a perfect SHTF rifle and play both food getter and defense roles.
-you can stock pile insane quantities of ammo for it right now at very low prices (you can get a case of 1120 rounds for about $200 in just about any city. You can set yourself up with a life time stock of ammo and not even feel it. The ammo is sealed and will keep as long as you live.

If you're still thinking about something else, I'd recommend the Norinco M14 rather than the M4.

Better gun and better round. The rifle can be had for under $500 and it will shoot really well out of the box. To top it all it is Non Restricted and can be used for hunting.

If you really want to set yourself up for SHTF, that's what I'd buy first.

Some day we'll recall the current 7.62x39 ammo price and supply as 'Remember when....blah, blah, blah'.... and say "I should have bought more".

See if a Norc M4 will do this.. or any other M4 for that matter...

Enough said... ;)

His M4; got a shower, and still had to remove the mag and shake it out for half a minute... and that was a RRA unit, not a Norc.

My CZ: burried in 0C water, sand & mud packed into the receiver & left in water, under ice for 5 mins. Water & debris cleared in <2 seconds & snap fired.

Again try that with your M4. ;)

I've got some guns that are real finnicky #####es, but you give me a minute to strip and clean it after dropping it into a puddle, they'll shoot too.

What I should have done about 6 years ago was buy more than 2 cases of the Norinco silver box. I bought them for 150 bucks/1200 now that was what I am kicking myself for. Great non corrosive ammo.

Did Norinco stop making this ammo?

I also have some left over from this type and would really like to find a source for it again.
