If it doesn't have a chrome lined barrel, not interested. I mean seriously, some of you guys are so frugal that you can't even spend 50 bucks more to double your barrel life? It is a no brainer, chrome lined is a deal breaker, no chrome, no deal.

Hard chroming isn't that cheap.

In the mean time, stick to your SKS.

that's what I was saying...that's exactly what it looks like, but the charging handle is MIA. like 35hundy said on the previous page, it's probably on the left side which seems all they would need to do is cut a slot in the other side of the cover, and make a threaded charging handle that screws into the bolt carrier. so this conversion would require the cover, and a new bolt carrier, aside from the obvious.

You're exactly right. Upon closer inspection, you can see another 58 MS in the display case under the long barrelled one, charging handle in all its glory.

I havent herd of any worn out cz858 and they don't have chrome bores. Ive herd of some with a several thousand rounds through them still shooting as well as when it was new. 7.62x39 is fairly slow and low presure round and couple that with 5 round mags and youve got yourself a really long barrel life. Either way you'll be spending many times what you paid for the rifle on ammo to wear it out.
The only thing i see chrome lined bores being good for is peace of mind when spending all day out in the bush shooting.

I'll be old and grey before I will be able to shoot out the barrel of one of these. We aren't talking full auto with full capacity mags. If I use corrosive ammo, I'll put the elbow grease into it and clean it. If I use commercial ammo or reload, I'll clean it when it needs it and keep shooting it for many years to come. Chrome is not a deal breaker for me at all. In fact, if the rifle can be $100 cheaper with no chrome, I'll take my $100 and spend it on ammo!

Chrome lining would be nice, but I'd also strongly prefer solid hardwood furniture. Is it going to have a bayo lug? Ambi charging handle and mag release would be awesome but I imagine those are unlikely options.

I am definitely interested though.

Re: chrome doubling barrel life

Not an issue for me. I read of a fella who has over 65,000 rounds through his CZ 858 and is only suffering a small decrease in accuracy. As mentioned above, the 7.62x39 round is kind to barrels. Don't worry about burning it out.

I want one!

I did not read through the whole thread, will the 5.56 version be available and will it be STANAG mags compatible?

nice catch...I didn't even notice that...derp!

I'm still trying to figure out if this is a whole new receiver design, or a new receiver cover that comes with 858 guts hiding inside.
