CZ Bren2 Owner: Info, Pics, Mods

Can someone give insight to the following as I cannot find the information online and it is contradictory.

I want to run an lpvo on my Bren 2 16.5” carbine. Now where I get confused is how people say the Bren differs from an AR and that scope mounts on Bren’s should be lower.

I don’t want as high as 1.93” but I’m thinking 1.54” vs 1.70”. I know there is a small difference in height but anyone that has a mount similar to this- could you chime in?

Which should I go with 1.54 or 1.70”. It will be the Reptilia AUS mount.

Thanks gang

Haven't weighed it, but with the optic, it's not exactly light. Nicely balanced though, even with the longer barrel. Ironically without the optic it feels noticeably lighter.... but a bit front-heavy. Either way, good excuse for me to work out more!

I'll weigh it if I can find my luggage scale
Which scope mount are you running and do you know the height?

How heavy?
I can give you a pretty good idea as I have a reasonable facsimile of Cobra's rifle with G36 stock. A bare 11 inch rifle with no mag and no back up sites comes in under in at 6 pounds 3 ounces.
The extra NR barrel length adds 12 ounces, My LVPO and rings added 1 pound 8 ounces. So its probably around 8 pounds 12 ounces with empty mag and back up sights, I ended up removing my LVPO and opted for a Vortex 3x prism sight to shave off an entire 1 pound. I also shaved off 3.5 ounces by removing the backup iron sites, otherwise that is the weight.

What worked for me is 1.70”. I use a Badger Ordnance mount and a Vortex Razor 1-6 and I found this height works with me with the waffle stock.

I had originally used a Burris PEPR with the same LPVO which if I remember correctly was 1.54” ish height. That was too low and I was getting scope shadow.

thank you for that. I did notice in the photo you have the BR/ ACR stock and not waffle. Still same same in regards to height?

Ahh ok my bad I’ve been calling it the waffle stock, thought that’s what it was thanks for informing me it’s not.

I haven’t swapped stocks at all, that’s the stock that works for me with the 1.70” mount.

You’re a beauty thank you.

Last question. Does that badger mount mash your knuckles with the charging handle or do you get decent clearance?

The reptilia is even tighter to the rail with the screws and doesn’t stick out as much as the badger I believe.

It does.

I have average to slightly above average hand size and yes I have to be careful not to skim my knuckles on the mount.

I plan to get a folding charging handle in the near future whenever I can find one. They seem to be out of stock everywhere I look.

I have one but haven’t installed yet. Soon though.

Maybe call rdsc and see when shipment is coming or source from irg or #####h.

Gonna put here for reference.
Wear after 7k (probably a bit more) of select auto Bren 2 in Ukraine. 10% was full auto. Operator is SOF, so while not a trench warfare, but still real combat use, including submerging to water, not cleaning for up to two weeks. Operator's test show that 1.5k rounds uncleaned becomes non-reliable so recommends not to go over 1k.

Firing pin safety. Insignificant.

Plastic link of charging handle.

Aluminum rails rode by steel carrier. Not bad, I expected much worse.

Gas port. Not great, not terrible. Fair for 7k-10k.

Bore is OK (factory guaranteed barrel life is 20k):

This hinge is survived, but it's a miracle. Many are broken. Note how it bends under pressure.

In all fairness those plastic stock hinged lock ups are not the most sturdy. When G36 first got issued back in 1997, there was a picture floating around of a broken G36 stock from a German jumper.

And the Bren hinge lock uip is essentially a HK G36 design.

Yeah, I saw quite few pics of broken hinges from my sources in Ukraine. Well, they acknowledged and changed it in Gen 3. Not a big deal for sport shooter though.
