CZ Bren2 Owner: Info, Pics, Mods

Hello guys,

New Bren 2 owner here I bought a 8" configuration in 5.56, I am really happy with my purchase and been lovely to shoot. However, since it's in restricted and in the future I would like to convert to NR, I was wondering is it possible with a 8" to be converted to NR? I saw that Dlask offers this kind of service (currently out of stock) and I am curious if it is a good thing. I am also considering the drop-in barrel that Dlask are making, I was thinking of buying a 16.5" barrel, will keep it restricted but giving me the capacity of swapping between 8" for Close Quarter fun and 16.5" if I want to shoot further. But I am not sure if any of these are possible, there isn't much information online and I don't know a lot about gunsmithing to understand these kind of things.

Nevertheless, I enjoy shooting my Bren 2 in 8" so far, the fireball and loud bang is so fun. It also have been amazingly reliable so far and easy to clean.

In leiu of the 18.6" factory NR version, I'd go with a 16" barrel factory and get it converted to 18.6". Me thinks it is more tricky (with the gas system/port size) to convert really short barrel systems to long ones. Not to mention resulting out of proportion handguard/sight radius aesthetics.

It's 100% was at least possible - I'd just contact DLASK here through their sub forum (Manufacturer's Sect) or contact them though email/phone. I don't know how many barrels etc they still have - or if they can still make them.

I believe there was talks of them making drop in non restricted barrels with the appropriate gas system on them ready to go. I would rather go that route than have them convert your 8". I had a conversion done on an 8" and it was over gassed.

Be aware that if you were looking for a 16.5" barrel for your 8" gun that it would need to be a one off custom made barrel and likely expensive. The factory 16" would not work unless you were to purchase a nearly complete new gas system and handguard as well as they are designed for the long gas system with different gas block sizes etc.

I have the Dlask NR conversion done on a 8 inches and even will full power - max load - reloaded 55 to 69 grains bullet..the rifle work perfectly - never missed -jammed or fail to load.

In my view that - over gazed -is just a story..

Bolt and internal look like new even after 1300 rounds. If it was overgazed it will be beaten up. This is definitely not the case.

Mr. Overgazed prove it..

Mine was ejecting at 1-2 o'clock. How is that just a story? I was one of the first people in the country to have a non restricted bren... I've seen lots of others who've said the same thing.

Has anyone seen this before? I just got one of those 14” Bren 2 rifles from the latest IRG import and there appears to be an extra hole in the back of the bolt carrier. I haven’t seen too many pictures of this part online, but I’ve handled quite a few and I don’t ever remember seeing this hole.

Part of full auto functionality (doesn't make your gun full auto, don't worry / get excited). It looks like top of your carrier is hollow (as civilian versions should be), so could be part of manufacturing unification or conversion from military carrier. Military carrier would have closed top with two cut out and springs and guides and weight inside this top housing. And IIRC the pin in this hole would hold all this shebang together inside and facilitate removal for cleaning.
Just in case - make a pic from the top.

Yeah, it’s hollow like the other ones I’ve seen. Comparing it to pictures, it looks to be identical except for those two holes

That's... Odd. The only left hand threads should be in some of the very first Bren 2s (not MS) and they were 14x1L. Anything after that should be 5/8 x24 unless it's an aftermarket thing.
Ya it's 14x1 lh... How did I manage to get some unicorn. This sucks just got my 5/8×24 break and it won't fit.... never fails I swear. Bolt says 23 manufactured

My 11" conversion to NR by Dlask is running great. I'm at around 1900-2k rounds through it, some plinking some competition 100-500 yards and its been near flawless so far. I'll be stretching it out to 600-1000 yards in May using berger 77grain otm projectiles.

I'll report back with my results and groups. I know its not a target rifle but I'm pretty confident that it will hold 15" at 1000 yards.

Here is the Collapsible Buttstock from Neoteric Designs. Not cheap, but it does pack down quite nicely. It would really shine on an 11" Barrelled Carbine, resulting in maximum compactness!
