DAC 394 (Sig 228 Clone) Kit

Damn mag catch cover plate, Was anyone elses poorly fitting?

Yes. During sandblasting I didn't realize the the frame part is dove tailed to accept the plate and mine got sloppy. Rather than risk it popping out, I very carefully applied a very small amount of JB weld back into the groves that accept the plate. I was very careful in using just enough to refill the dovetail and ensured no JB weld was left on the inside of the plate to interfere with the mag release / spring. I cleaned any excess JB weld off with WD40. I believe I am not the only one who used this fix. Perhaps yours does fit but you have to slide it in from the side?

Thanks mp5k !

I don't know who got the kit for sale on EE ..... but I'm kicking myself for not checking it more often, I think I'd like to do another ! :D

Hokus .... the cover plate supplied with the kit is 0.032" thick and my banding is about 0.022" thick, but it worked well for me. I rough cut it to shape with tin snips, beveled the top and bottom with a file for a decent fit in the dovetails, and with a little trial fitting and filing - got the final shape.

Mine was a nice sliding fit into the dovetail, so to provide a little friction I gave it a little bend ..... ie: when its lying flat on the table you can notice it's bowed slightly. Now when you install it you have to push it down slightly (flattening it ) while sliding it into the dovetail and it retains it snugly.

I made mine a little short ....... if I do another one, I'll make it long enough that the rear of the plate just clears the hole for the trigger bar spring. Also the original plate has a dimple to allow you to remove it with a tool.... but I'd just drill a hole through it big enough so you can use a small punch to remove it, near the rear of the plate where it would be hidden by the grips.

Light Firing Pin Strikes - Fixed !!!!

Back in this and nearby posts, we talked about light firing pin strikes:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3702849#post3702849

To fix this I:
1/ modified my hammer spring strut as per MiltonBradly's idea
2/ Re-shaped my firing pin tip
3/ cut a couple of coils of of my firing pin spring

Well I put a few rounds down range this morning, and here is are the results:

Now I'm kinda depressed cause I can't think of anything else I need to do.:( ........ Ooohh !! I still have to get the sights dialed in properly ..... Maybe a homemade sight pusher !!:)

Worked the early shift today, so I was off early enough to put some work in. Cracked a cold beer and painted the flat black ceramic. It's curing on the balcony as we speak. Can't wait to do the final fitting, fine tune the DA and a few minor tweaks that have come up on here in the last few weeks. Gotta love this little club we've got going on. lol

@ Joe-Boy

My plate didn't have many problems fitting. It's not as tight as I'd like, but that's fine, it does the trick. I'm looking at getting some SIG springs from Questar, they have a complete kit of springs and the Breech Block pin, but the pin might not be the right size, as the kit Questar has is a 229 kit. We'll see, I guess.

So I have breach block pins. Oh and I thought Meghan at my Fastenal was so dialed in. Not so fast. I have only received the "heavy duty" 3.5mm and the 5/64" pins and not all of them either. It seems the 2mm "heavy duty" pins are a little hard to find.
I can hear joe-boy chuckling from here. Flash back: post #381.

For those of you who PM'ed me for pins. Good news.

PINS AWAY! via regular post.

If anybody needs a set I'd be happy to help out. I'll mail them to you at cost. PM me.

I use 3 MecGar mags (along with my 2 stock Sig mags) with my P226 and I have never had a problem with them. They feed great. I know that Marstar has them for $35.00 for the P228.
Mecgar mags are some of the best that you can buy, they make alot of factory mags for companies.

Oh wow really? I absolutely hate my mac-gar magazines. Regularly the slide will not lock back on a dry magazine. This is with my p226 though. They are the 10 rounders with the plastic bottom and a stainless body. I really dislike them and in the future i'm going to replace them with OEM sig magazines.

Weird. I far prefer my MecGar mags in my 226, over the Sig OEM ones.

How do you like the Dlask mags in the Dlask DAC 394 pistol kit? Did you find any one particular mag distort your trigger bar more than others? Did you have to modify the MecGear mags at all to fit in the DAC 394 PISTOl KIT?

Oh and I thought Meghan at my Fastenal was so dialed in.
If you are talking about Megan from Fastenal Port Kells (just my guess),
then she is so "dialed in" indeed.
She is so cool and customer service oriented.
But, there are lumps in the supply chain, etc.
You realize that the company doesn't make a lot of money
from the sale of two and a half pins, don't you?
:)

Well you needed to know the context of the post in regards to the 2mm pins, and how I was rather cocky about the fact that I seemed to have been able to find them (through Meghan). It was not a slag at Meghan (I think it has an H, I don't have her card handy). She has worked very hard on this pittly assed order.

Oh, and by the way - you do know that the company makes tens of thousands of dollars from the industry I work in don't you, and thousands of dollars from me alone?

I didn't think so.

How did the ceramic work out?:)

It looks good. Flat black, just like I wanted. I'm going to let it sit overnight and put her together tomorrow.

I couldn't resist. I put the slide together, but it's getting too late to assemble at the kitchen table. Apartment living isn't condusive to gunsmithing.

So I did manage to get in the 2mm x 26 pins from Meaghan (correct spelling) at Fastenal today, but I don't see a difference with the 5/64" other than the 5/64" pins needed to be shortened.
