Got the barrel back for my M14 shorty project.
Had the barrel cut down to 18.75" and threaded for a Smith Direct Connection Vortex FH.
Had the barrel screwed back into the reciever, indexed and rifle rebuilt in 2 hours.
Dropped in a "slightly" used TRW bolt that fit perfectly without any lapping.Barely any bolt play at all.
Also drilled out my rear sight aperture a wee bit so now I see the entire ring of the Navy sight. This makes picking up the front sight really quick.Since this is a shorty, this will be a 200 meter gun at most.
The parts list is as follows:
-Norinco reciever with 18.75" Norc barrel assembly
-Gas cylinder shimmed
-S.E.I. Direct Connection Vortex FH
-Rooster33 gaslock front sight
-Rooster33 NM op rod spring guide
-Rooster33 oversized bolt release
-USGI recoil spring
-USGI TRW bolt
-Norinco op rod
-Norinco trigger group
-Damage Inc. MARPAT USGI Fiberglass stock set
-Fore end accessory rail
-Dummy selector kit (just need a USGI op rod to install the connector link).

Now with my "fake"( Airsoft) Smith can:

The modified rear aperture:

For those that are curious, cutting the barrel and having it threaded cost me $40.00.
The entire project before taxes would be around $1300.00 retail. This includes the purchase of the rifle ( but lucky me I have a source for bargains!!!
).
You could do the same project yourself a little cheaper buy using a plain jane stock and modifed AR FH for around $1000.00
