Dangerous game short range match. The challenge is on!

a semi is still going to win.

Not many folks are going to trust a semi in such circumstances. Are they right? Who the heck knows as there are so many variables. A Sauer S303 in 9.3x62 seems like it would be a candidate, but you know Murphy's Law. There was also an outfit in the USA that used to convert .338 WM Browning BARs to .416 Taylor.

this competition is about paper right?

either way my 450 semi will be fine for my needs.

It does say "dangerous game", so I think, implicit in that, one should be using a rifle that could/would actually be used on dangerous game.

I would use it on dangerous game, it is more than capable. but for the purpose of this challenge it is just paper.

Well yes, the Courtneys and Ballantines might have been part of the problem, but so was . . .

Yer kiddin' right? A big-ass double on a smallie that woulda dropped with a decent shot from a .30-30?
That's funny. Oy Vey.

I like you SHELL, so as a kind suggestion, unfortunately your inexperience in those matters is showing. That is not a small animal and you're judging on photo perspective, it is not a friendly animal, and it is not walked up to and popped like an Island critter with a .30-30.

You can argue your point, but you're going to be cheating, as I'm presuming you're talking some sort of light duty semi .45 chambering with nearly nil recoil compared to actual dangerous game rifles. The only person unfortunately you'd be kidding is yourself, that you're actually fulfilling the intent of the challenge with that. It'd be a lot like turning up to a driven boar hunt with a 10/22.

If it's a 450 Marlin loaded standard to hot I'd say it's a good test.

Semiautos for dangerous game are not my choice but if someone has a hard hitting semiauto rifle/shotgun that they trust for the close range scary stuff let's do it!

275gr tsx at 2200fps with 2700ftlbs not enough?

No, not really, that's an extremely light bullet for caliber, and only matches a revolver that S&W will sell you. :) You've got yourself a .375 Winchester there with much worse sectional density, but I'll admit curiosity at what you can do with it as well, fire away.
not sure where u live but with me being in BC that means grizz and it is not going to live after 5 rounds at 25yds, even 1 will do.

I'm going to try this with the following

470 double
375hh bolt
benelli m4
rem870 14" ghost rings
chiappa lever 44 mag

not sure when I'll get out but it'll be a fun day

Northern BC here and work remote, yourself? Ever got the draw and hunted Grizzly? :) You might be surprised what they'll take a hit from and go for a couple minutes before dropping. Get a bear on adrenaline and you have a whole different animal.

Nope, not even close try doubling that and then you'll find yourself in dangerous game energy territory.........................at 2200 fps you need at least 400 gr bullet to make the grade, and 500 is better yet...........That load and cartridge doesn't even make Yukon bison specs, hardly a dangerous load!!!
