de-restrict the AR?

Getting the AR-15 off of the restricted list would be fantastic!

Another good start would be to get the minimum barrel length for non-restricted down to 16". That would open up many more factory black rifle options with out having special barrels made to make them non-restricted.

Scrap barrel length restrictions all together or only have an OAL restriction.

We should derestrict all the present and previous CF small arms and their variants - C1, C2 and C7.

Second, we should have a law like in switzerland, where all surplus CF weapons could be legally converted to semi-auto and exempted for civilian purchase.

Since this is turning into a want list, I'd love to see the following:

1. Long-gun registry gone.

2. All long-guns are long-guns (no barrel laws) if it has a stock it's a long-gun.

3. Handguns stay on the registry, but are moved to our current 'Non-Restricted' status; handgun owners can now take their handguns anywhere as long as they are accompanied with the certificate. Note: This isn't an open-carry or concealed-carry license/permit.

4. All Prohibited firearms and related items get moved to our current 'Restricted' status (full-auto, silencers, non-neutered magazines, etc.).

5. Create an avenue for those who wish to carry concealed the option to do so; "Restricted firearms and magazines" (see #4) are allowed to those who hold a valid CCW license.
Note: I'd pay good money yearly for this privilege; this could be awesome revenue for Canada that'd I'd happily pay.

Common sense stuff, no?

Scrap barrel restrictions completely. If firearms classifications really are intended for the safety of gun owners, there should be just handgun and long gun classes. After all, the restricted course material has nothing in it on short-barreled long guns.

Wow, some of you really think that Harper's conservatives are going to completely revamp the gun laws in Canada. Not going to happen.

+1

A few variations to that would be good, but i also wants some laws or things pertaining to "Right To Bare Arms" in writing and law..

But even before scrapping the registry I want him to cut the funding of other parties & especially the CBC....If Harper wants to save Canada he really needs to take an all out approach, will remember what he does, and he will have my loyalty if he honors his commitments..

But the likelihood of him revamping the firearms act is vastly higher than a Liberal or NDP Government. Let us have our dreams. Advocacy groups and those who they represent are not in for a compromise, and should never settle for compromise. Keep the pressure up and wait for something to give, then just keep pushing harder. Last thing we want is for the NFA or CSSA to be branded onto a Government Bill and have it peddled to the masses as if they fully endorse it. Ultimately we want to government to yield to us, not the other way around. Make it look like we're coming from a position of strength, and not of weakness. So, it's good to have some hope. The only party who cares about firearm owners is in power, so thats good news.

Silencers would be awesome. Would be nice to shoot a short barreled AR for example, and not have some old guy complaining how loud it is.

The AR sends the same bullet down range as various other rifles. To differentiate firearms on the basis of appearance seems to make as much sense as to do the same with people... The result of changing the classification to non-restricted may reduce the number of "firearms" - one lower, .22, 9mm, .223 and .308 uppers... Silencers should be a non-brainer, serve the public interest in terms of noise nuisance, serve the shooters in terms of hearing protection and range safety (can hear communications), and factually - the number of crimes committed in Canada with a silencer in the last 50 years... even if there happened to be 1 or 2 (doubt it), compared to the cost of the regulation, hearing protection, range safety, nuisance... cost/benefit is clearly in favour of silencers. Heck, even highly regulated countries like NZ & UK allow silencers - its simply civilized.

G37, why were you not on the ballot list?
