de-restrict the AR?

+1 not a whole lot is going to change. They may scrap the long gun registry. But any more work than that is unrealistic. I doubt their first order of business, of even 100th order of business is to look at reworking our fire arms legislation. Just sayin

Gun control works like a ratchet. It only goes one way.

Instead of down to 16 inches it would make more sense to have no restriction on length. Let's face it. It's not deterring crime or reducing or whatever bs claim is keeping it in.
I can get a nonrestricted 8" pump shotty, but a 14.5 AR is too dangerous? scary looking? too fun? I think we all know how ridiculous these restrictions are.

I want the Canadian Charter of 'Rights and Freedoms' completely re-vampted to include right to property and the right to bear arms.
Work it so even the Supreme Court cannot 'interpret' it to mean anything less than what it is.
Despite what we hope for, there will be a day in the future that a left-leaning government will form a majority and will overturn any reversal that takes place with the current firearms laws. It is not enough that our immediate wants and desires are filled, but that our laws and freedoms are protected and enshrined for our children and their children. Anything less is unacceptable.

I think it's safe to say that the bill Garry Breitkreuz put forward before the media jumped down his throat will probably be dug up and easily passed. That was the one that would've killed the registry and lumped ATTs onto your R-PAL (no need to call and ask permission to abide by the law). Anything more would be unlikely, mainly because it's not actually party policy to do anything more. Granted, it'd still be a welcome change.
Rather than pestering cabinet ministers, I'd be more inclined to pester the "Outdoors" committee. That's their job to encourage outdoor pastimes, such as hunting and shooting sports.

as much as i would love to see some major changes, we will only see the long gun registry disapear as promised by the conservatives. there is zero reason for the conservatives to do anything about firearm legislation other then what was promised about removing the long gun registry. just remember the conservatives were and are trying prove they are financialy responsible by removing the registry. being financial responsible is a necesity for seeking re-election. that is the only reason for its potential elimination. they are not doing it to apease us and make the hunters happy.
i only hope the registry disapears before the next firearm related tragedy strikes at a canadian school, mall, government facilty ect ect. that way i can at least keep my semi autos hidden when they are banned for civilian ownership and siezed from us. just remember we are potential only one tragedy away from even more government legislation being rammed down our throats or our semi autos being seized from us. its unfortunate but its true. the tories will turn on us just like the ndp would or the liberals would after the next tragedy. unfortunetly canadian culture does not embrace firearm ownership unlike the united states. it is only a matter of time before we are just the same as australia and great britain.
Listen here boys and girls ^^^^ we don't want this but it is inevitable if we do not add this to our charter of rights and freedoms.
short term wish: I want to be able to go into a gun dealer, choose whatever firearm is made on this planet, do a criminal record check, pay for it, and leave.
absolutely no restrictions whatsoever on any firearms, no mag limits, full auto, semi, guns that can fit in my shirt pocket, anything and everything.
