Deal Guidelines for Buyer & Seller - Please Read

I'm currently doing my first trade on the EE and I've actually encountered a buyer who is far OVER communicative and seems expect the same from me.

I informed him on Sunday before receiving the EMT on Monday that I would ship the rifle on Tuesday morning.

I worked from 4pm-1am on Monday and during the period I was at work, I got no less than 5pms urging me to send the rifle right away, that he was urgently awaiting it.

So when I got home at 1am, I sent him a message letting him know I was at work and would ship it at the pre-agreed upon time on Tuesday morning....which I did.

I then PMed him letting him know that I had shipped it and provided the tracking number. For whatever reason, he never responded to any of my PMs again.

Apparently his psychotic string of 5 PMs demanding I 'send that badboy' to him right away not being responded to for a whole 8 hours was just too much for him to handle.

I have a feeling this will probably be my last time on the EE.

I had a guy in Quebec that I sold an m213 Norinco 9mm for $120.00 freak out because my ATT was being delayed by the BC CFO. He said that once the pistol was transferred into his name by the CFC, that he had to have it in his possession or he could lose his RPAL. I gave him an update every day or so, sent the package with tracking number, and then asked if I could refund him the $10.00 extra I charged for shipping (which of course he said yes).

Then I get a neutral feedback from him saying I took too long.

When you're buying/selling with the EE, everyone has different expectations. You have to take into account that you're dealing with the general public, so you're going to meet all types.

When you buy something off the EE, you're probably paying less than you'd pay a retailer... so why does everyone expect service that's superior to that which you would receive from a retailer?

At a store, selling you things is their business; it's all they do, every day. On the EE, you're dealing with people that lead regular lives, and have other s**t to do besides holding your hand throughout the whole process. Is communication nice? Yes, undoubtedly, that's why I try to communicate well with my buyers and seller. But as long as you get what you paid for, and it's in the expected condition and delivered in a timely manner, I don't think any complaints really have a leg to stand on.

The EE is not a retail outlet, it's a classifieds section. Adjust your expectations accordingly, do your due diligence, and most will find they are rarely disappointed.

As an aside though, photo collectors and time-wasting, over-negotiating, question-filled buyers trying to horse trade and/or nickel and dime you to death need to stop being dicks when the item they've been asking about for days sells out from under them to some guy that just says; "Here's the cash, thanks."

Exactly as you said - as long as comms are good and things are done in a timely fashion - then everything is good. The problem seems to be with the people who don't understand that part. Too many excuses - i'm too busy, etc. If the guy is too busy then he should just stay off the EE until he can make time to take care of his responsibilities instead of sluffing it off like an irresponsible jackass.

PS.. The wife just got back from shipping a bunch of stuff and the PM's with the tracking numbers have been sent.. 170 in shipping.. Damn CP ain't that cheap..

all good points. Communication is the key. My favorite adds are the ones saying "local pickup, local pickup saves shipping cost, local buyers get preference"......but theres no way to know where the hell LOCAL is because the location isnt mentioned and persons avatar says "from melmac" or "right here".

Believe me I am moving along I'm not trying to haggle people down I was just curious what the idea is being listed a gun used for $800 when I can order a new one online for $630.

But I take it there is no logic behind it so I guess I'll just move along.

Seems pretty easy to decide which one to buy - what's the problem? Don't waste your time crying, buy the one you think is the best deal.

If you're curious send a PM to that particular seller. Why would you expect that anyone but him has a freaking clue why he set the price like he did?

Now unfortunately I've only done a few deals on the EE myself. But what really boils my beer is the lazy sellers who do not change the WTS to Please Remove,or at least add "SPF" to the ad title. Quite a few sellers are way too lazy and only post that the item is sold in the ad somewhere.

+1 on communication. It goes a long, long way to keep people happy.

Another point for sellers is list your location! Seems silly, but it's nice to know where a potential purchase would be shipping from.

I've bought things because I was within driving distance. Without a location, I would have passed.

One more thing as far as communications go. If you put up a WTB for an item and somebody responds with what you might be looking for, please do not let the PM go unanswered. If it's not what you're looking for let the responder know. "Sorry, not quite what I had in mind."

Would be nice to have something like this as an "EE Standard Practices" so that if you make an offer on something, or are selling something, you could add to the deal "EES&P followed" so the other person knows that the other person is going to treat the transaction with respect, not jam out for a week or two.

OK, so I admit i had ulterior motives when i started this... from now on my EE ads will have a link to this thread and will say something to the effect that I will follow these guidelines and expect the same from the buyer. ;)

I've had the same thought half a dozen times over and would love to petition the forum bosses to institute something like this.

Bottom line is be courteous, prompt and communicate. Stuff happens and everybody is different.

Well said. There have been a couple of time I have thought better of posting a gun for sale. The ones in question weren't up to much, so I basically gave them away at fire sale prices at a gun show. Maybe saved some disappointment for both the buyer and seller.

I agree with most that you posted, other than this one.

Here it is, corrected.

6. If you PM the seller to say "I'll take it", then you can not change your mind.
You have commited yourself to this purchase, and now it is yours.
Negative feedback will be given, so that everyone else knows to avoid dealing business with you.

"A deal is a deal" works both ways!

If you have committed to "take it" at the sellers asking price and the seller has agreed, the seller should NOT PM several days later to say "Oh, I decided to include it in a package deal to someone else"!!

A deal is a deal. Do NOT use my item to "sweeten" a package deal!!!

I should leave HIM a negative feedback!

Agreed!

Works both ways.

Why didn't you?
