Hey all just wonted to tell you that I have bagged a nice 2x3 muley buck!

The story :D

Me and my buddy Aaron were going out boony bashing yesterday and I thought I would talk to him and ask If I could take my rifle along as Deer buck season had open on the 10th. So he agreed so we went and picked up my new 300 win mag and were off. Aaron has never been hunting so this makes it even more fun. So we first go to the range for a hour and sight the big 300 in after that we are gone!
We start hunting at around 2:00 down Sonders road and we see nothing not even a grouse so at around 4:00 we start to head back. After another half hour of nothing we pass a small pond with lots of trees around it. We are just about past it when I see a ear flick on the far side of the pond I $h!t you not a ear flick. I yell at Aaron to stop the truck DEER!!!! And what dose he do he slams the thing in reverse and starts spinning the tires to try to get back to the spot I tell him to stop now and ill get out. So I jump out of the truck and load up the 300 win mag with 3 rounds and get to were I had seen him and sure enough he is still there I go prone and look through my scope all I have is a front shoulder neck and head shot then I start to see twigs and sh!t in my scope so I think to my self should I shoot or should I move to a better place I decide to shoot so I squeeze one off the rifle spews out its fiery death and the rest is history the 180 gr Cor-lokt bullet hit him in the front of the shoulder blew right through the broiler room and out the other side he ran maybe 30 ft. Pics will be up as soon as Aaron gets them to me :D:dancingbanana: !!!!!

Hey congrats lil buddy.

I know you used to get picked on around here back last year. But I am finally glad that you have gotten your PAL, picked up a nice rifle and bagged your first deer :)
PS. Isn't it illegal to hunt from a road?

Congrats on your first animal Riley!
I won't hack on ya about the road hunting, but next time I highly reccommend trying to get one by walking through the bush and drop something at least a half mile from your truck. That's when you really earn it!

I bet you had fun with the field dressing. I know I did with my first one, although I was only 14.

Congrats,
Noel

I am just curious here.

I was led to believe from my instructor at the time that it was illegal to hunt on a used road "old logging road's don't apply to my understanding of how he worded it" but he told me that if you come to a road and you need to step on it or cross it that you need to unload your firearm in order to cross the road in a legal manner.
Now could someone explain to me if hunting on a used road is illegal? Did riley do a no no or was I taught wrong? :S

sonders road is just a name that we have given it. It really is an old logging road that runs beside a business called daveals the owner is Dave Sonders and he has been around there for a very long time hence the name sonders road. It will take you to enso park if you drive far enough.

oh and mommabear he thought it was cool he was right in there with me :D I was also really prowd of myself as this was the very first time fild dressed an animal by my self and every thing went great :D

Dear boy, who told you I used a quad back in them days.
Nope, it was dress it and drag it home by myself in the dark (by the time I had it dressed) in -18 Celcius, down the hill across the muskeg, over the creek, through the bush, across the field and oh thank goodness there's the yard light 400yards yonder across the pasture.
Trust me when you have drug a little fork horn that far in a foot of snow, not only are you nearly dead but that deer will always be way bigger to you than it looks.:p

Good for you man.....While hunting while hiking is more rewarding and more enjoyable to me....I would not pass up a gift buck if it's stupid enough to stay near the road.

Good goin grasshopper, looking forward to some pics :)

you should of used that machine gun 308 you have
Get that vision outa my head :runaway:

BTW for those wondering about hunting on roads in BC you can do just that, and even shoot off from logging roads for the most part. All non industrial public roads have restrictions with no fire zones for a certain distance each side of the road but most of the bush roads do not..
