Why? Is there a requiremnet or need to post experiences before one can comment on others experiences? Have I been unethical by expressing my opinion? I assumed he wanted peoples recognition about what he had done or he wouldn't have posted it.

Ahem.

A story about a hunt isn't an open invitation to critisize the methods of the hunter, unless something GROSSLY UNETHICAL has occured (not just that you prefer a different method of hunting). If it's legal, that's pretty much about it. If you don't like one form or another, start a new thread and discus it.

So - no more 'road hunter' comments in this thread. From ANYONE. Or i'll share my thoughts on the moral and ethical nature of people who chose to do that kind of thing, and i guarantee that those involved won't care for it.

Geez it'd be nice to read at least one goddam story in this section where no one decided to get on their moral high horse and pretend their crap don't stink and tell everyone else 'how it should be', instead of just enjoying the story and being happy there's still new hunters getting into the game.

gitrdun - knock it off as well. It was clear from his post that he was not suggesting in the slightest that 'shooting kids' was the moral bar.

And don't come onto this board and start preaching your version of morals to others. I find those who scream about them the loudest usually have the least myself, but in either case if you want to start a thread on ethics, then start one, don't troll on this one.

What the hell - is there something in the water these days? Smarten the hell up guys, relatively new hunter makes a good kill and shares the story and this is occasion to act like moses coming down from the mountians? Pat the kid on the back and maybe share one of your early hunting experiences, don't start getting preachy.

As much as I hate to say it, I'm kinda proud of TEH DETHE GUNKEY, it's one thing to talk about hunting and shooting and another thing to actually do it, if you know what I mean. There are plenty of arm-chair hunters on these boards (we don't need to mention names), and criticism is always cheap & plentiful around these parts, but the fact remains that Riley bagged himself a spiker and did the dirty work associated with such a significant act as killing an animal, a fact of which he should be proud. It's not easy hauling a 120lb spiker outta the bush on yer shoulders :p jk, good job Riley, sounds like a good clean ethical kill, I sincerely hope all your future kills are just as good :cool:
 
It's amazing how a little ear flick can be all you see sometimes, or a 'branch' that's just not the right shape.

I really encourage new hunters to take every opportunity to look at deer in the wild, even out of season, just to get your eye trained to noticing that little movement that will give you a shot. Pictures help a bit too if you can't get out in the woods, look at all the pictures or movies of deer you can, just to train your eye up.

This exact thing was what killed me when I took my hunting trip/vacation in the Charlottes at the beginning of August :redface: I've been livin' in the city for too long, and I couldn't spot deer to save my life!! We'd be standing on a ridge overlooking a clearcut, and my buddy would be pointing out deer left, right & centre while I was just standing there squinting and looking around like an old man with bad eyes :runaway:

Good advice Foxer, in fact I think I'ma go find some deer movies right now...

I can live with that. :)

Sorry Riley, Because the road was named, I assumed :redface: you had done something unethical. I should have questioned your initial post rather than assume you were hunting from a public road. I regret the posts that followed detracted from your hunting story.:(

Hey I dont mind Its good to ask questions! I did say road and for most part you are right most roads are public.

anyways we just got back from the hunting trip didnt see much. Just a few black bears and 6 grizzlys and 4 grouse lol Ill have pics up after school today of the deer and the trip:D

Umm... Ok I'll repond to this only because I was not online since thursday and did not see this post until now.

All I said is that I don't care (my opinion) where or how someone bags a deer. If it happens to be on a logging road, so be it. As for conservation/ethics and all things that go along with it I am more than aware.

As for sportsman like conduct I don't understand that since I am on top of the food chain and am going after an inferior species armed with a modern firearms ;) so i don't see your point.

All I was trying to say was, don't piss on the kids parade when he shares a hunting story, too bad it escaladed to this. You don't know me or what sarcasm is (in regards to the "shooting kids" thing) so chill. If it offended you I am sorry.
