Deer Season 2020 Thread

Filled my WT tag Thursday.

Passed up on a similar buck on the 1st but I only have a few more days to hunt so I took the opportunity on this guy.

I walked through some bush and bumped a doe and fawn close to a cutline, I went back to my truck and got a camping chair and my tripod and went back to the cutline to sit for the last 2 hours of legal light.

The wind wasn’t good for where I needed to be, so I set up right beside a pipeline header and line heater that leaked a bit of methane to cover my scent.

I waited about 5 minutes and grunted..... nothing. 10 mins later I ripped a doe bleat and still nothing. Another 5 mins and I hit the doe bleat again and this guy stepped out 40yds from me.

120gr TTSX out of my 7mm Rem Mag @ 3300fps hit him high lung and he dropped right in his tracks. He kicked for 10 seconds then it was over. Perfect TTSX performance. Small hole in and out, while putting a fist sized hole in both lungs. Just turned them to mush.

A quick gut and drag back to the truck and I had my 2020 WT. I got him about 100yds from my last WT buck, and 400yds from my 5x5 I got on this exact same day 5 years ago.

I went to the deer camp last week and took my bird gun, no rifle. I had a great time. :)

Cut some firewood, ate some food, burped & farted whilst telling some lies. Even got ONE grouse. It was a perfect week away! :)

How many folks are snowed out of their regular spots?

Im glad it snowed enough here to cut down on all those morons that truck hunt and drive around 4 in a truck like retards. Im still able to get in since im lifted on 37s... :)

I already have 140.3 km of walking logged since Opening day.

Hope it snows even more to cover up this week's deer tracks.

Got my Sask whitetail out of the way opening day. My friends boy got a nice one as well. Mine went with a green score of 167 1/8 and his is at 165 2/8. I am very happy to have a great healthy buck this year for the feeezer and a little something for the wall. Mine was taken at 130y with a .308 federal 150gr SP from my Sako Black bear. https://i.imgur.com/ufxyMtU.jpg

Many of the main grids have been impassable and secondary or smaller grids aren't even worth trying no matter what you are using to get into your spot, we got a dump!

Deer meat ain't that good and blown axles are more expensive than 100lbs of clean store bought and aged beef. :)

Very nice. Good for you guy's.

Was up for 4 days after the heatwave when temps dropped back down to seasonal. Didnt see a single deer. The cams only caught one doe at night. I will have to go back with crossbow in hand and hope something shows up later in the year.

Congrats to those that tagged out!

Got this guy last weekend, passed him up the previous weekend as no shot, he was at 300 yrds and I was not comfortable taking a standing shot at that distance. Then seen him last weekend at a 98yrds, kneeling shot well placed went down on the spot.

What calibre in the No1?

Not sure if you are asking about mine? It's a 26-inch .300WinMag, one of my pet rifles in a favourite chambering. A bit heavier than ideal, but the perfect stand rifle; makes me smile every time I glance down at it while sitting through a long day. :)
