Defiance Sierra One .338LM complete! Photos on post 111.

That barrel is so skinny!! What diameter does it finish up at?

Nice job on the trigger. Frank at Trigger Tech is sending us one for the Poker Rally. Great guy to deal with. Gonna replace my Rifle Basix in my .308 with one. Wish I would have heard of them before I spent all that loot on my Timney. Starting a 7LRM build. Likely gonna use a TT or the new Cadex. Both sponsored the shoot.

It's a heavier profile than it looks like. Measures .830 at the end of the barrel, as per Whitley Palma contour, just double checked it with the dial calipers as well.

gotcha. Mine starts at 1.350 and has a 8" shank length befor going straight taper to .900 at the muzzle at 32" finished. The barrel started as a 1.40 and my smith had to turn it down.

Hell, mine looks skinny next to his 338 improved. 1.450 straight bull. Looks like an axle.

Yowza... 1.450 straight bull? That's gotta be an 8lb barrel lol... heavier than a lot of hunting rifles.

I'm pretty happy with the contour I chose, I think it is a very good middle ground between stiffness and weight.

Nice^. So now that you have your new toy, and if you don't mind, could you kindly measure that clearance for me from 0 to 70 moa? I'd really like to know how much space is taken away to reach 70 moa on that mount.

I lost a total of .12 inches of clearance. With my 40 moa rail and a 56mm objective it starts with .5" clearance and ends with .38". I think I could have gon with the lower. The whole assembly is so high I have the cheek rest nearly maxed out. But I also 160moa of total adjustment plus 20moa in the reticle. The sacrifices we make for extreme distances eh?

Just spent some time on the phone with Coretac Solutions, trying to determine if they can get me a SPUHR ISMS for a 30mm tube with a 40+ MOA cant. That would be ideal, as my current Remington with a 0MOA base and a 20MOA SPUHR runs out of elevation at around 1650 meters.

With the integral 20MOA picatinny base on the Defiance, and a 40 or so MOA cant on the mount, I will have a crap-ton of adjustment, should be into 2500 meter + territory.

I believe Near will do one for you too. Lovely a little cheaper, but no level built in. He is a canadian manufacturer though!

Just remember not to exceed 50% of your scopes total vertical adjustment otherwise you will end up with a 500 yard zero or further. My buddy's cheytac with a 60 moa vase and an NXS runs a 1000yard zero.

My eratac has 70moa. Adjustable so I dial it when I need it. Got to get it out to test it out. Wish I would have gone with the medium mount though. The high has tons of clearance. Same price as the spur

Well, took it out to the range for some load development on Sunday. Started at 94 grains and saw some real pressure start at 99-100 grains. Got to 101 and my plunger on my ejector got stuck. Guess I went a little to high.

Seems to have found a sweet spot aroung 97 grains that I have to do a little fine tuning on. Was holding right around .75moa at 300m and pushing 2940fps. Back to pull some of the higher loads and retest at 96, 96.5, 97, 97.5, and 98 and monkey with the seating depths a bit. Started with a soft jam, may try a little jump as well.

To be honest, I thought I would get a little more powder in there before seeing pressure. Max load on a lapua is listed at 94gr. Figure the improved would give me more than 3 grains more. Guess I am used to the US869 and 108-112gr. Saw big temperature swings though.
