Desert Tech confirms a Canadian MDR

This is very good news. Now we can only hope that Turdeau 2.0 doesn't make it into office.
As for my bank account, this is bad news. Oh well. Priorities....

Desert Tech are the people that have managed to make a good bullpup trigger.

They have also designed this gun to have a free floated barrel. (as free floated as any piston gun can be)

These 2 things make it special compared to other bullpups.

Let's talk about the gun, not the importer. Reciprocating charging handle... Good or bad?

The only good thing about reciprocating charging handle is the ability to use its as a forward assist but you also run the risk of the charging handle striking an object (your gear, cover or a tree your using for support and not considering where the charging handle is) and getting a stoppage. Other than that non reciprocating is the better option.

As far as looks go I like the MDR way more than the tavor (and I own one). I'll wait till some of you guys have some reviews for me to read haha.

What are we talking timeline wise here? Still has to be proved by RCMP I'm assuming?

I'd actually prefer a 19 inch barrel to a shorter one in this rifle, even if the shorter ones were somehow nonrestricted.

What's a floating barrel anyways

A barrel independent (for the most part) from the handguard or any other external force allowing it free movement and vibration during firing, greatly increases accuracy since no (somewhat) outside force is on the barrel.

Which is why you should never (if possible) attach a bipod directly to a barrel.

the 10.5' barrel version is so ###y it isn't even funny. It would be nice to have a front stock on the 19" with the longer length and the grip of the shorter barrel stock.

Looks like 300BLK is only going to be on the -C model with a 10.5 inch barrel :(
I certainly hope they make the 19 inch Canada friendly version in 223/5.56 and 300BLK. I might actually sell my ACR and the conversions I've built for it once I have one of these.

I just emailed them with a couple questions about calibers available and if they used a Lothar Walther blank for the barrel in the 19 inch version (like they use in the SRS), I'll post when I get a reply

My thoughts exactly, so why would DT use a reciprocating charging handle?

How do we feel about a flash hider on top of the 19" barrel?
Remember, a FH DOES NOT count towards the legal length.

Personally, I would prefer a clean barrel, no FH.

BTW, I thought semis are no longer allowed in Oz.

EDIT. This is on DT 's site in the comment section.
For Australia the MDR might make barrel length requirements but our laws prohibit 99% of the community from owning semi-automatic centerfire firearms of any kind. Unless you’re a professional contract pest control shooter, a firearms dealer or federally approved importer who has a ‘genuine need’ to have one of these, you’re never going to get approval to possess one of these unfortunately. - See more at: http://www.dtacomlink.com/universal-mdr-and-the-19-inch-barrel/#comment-223875

I don't care if it will be allowed down unda, all I care about is if we are going to get a non restricted FRT here.

As long as there is enough barrel for us to get them non restricted I don't care what's on the end of the barrel. Take it off and put on a thread protector if you don't want a FH.
In the pics on the website it actually looks like a brake not a FH.

Let's just worry about it when they actually start making them. Hopefully they understand Canadian laws or at least consider our laws when building the 19 inch. Maybe it's 19 inches plus the muzzle device making it 20-21 inch barrel including muzzle device.
