Desert Tech MDR Updates

Years ago, (2007, or 2008?) someone did exactly that with the Rob Arms XCR.
I made the same comment about pulling the same gag the following year.
And wouldnt you know it, it did take more than a year before the XCR was released!
I tried contacting the other guy, but he didnt do it a second time.

Actually they selling pre-orders. Last I read, they are hoping for a Q3 release this year.

Initial releases will be 16in. barrels, so no NR yet. I imagine that by the time an actual MDR goes through the FRT process, we're probably looking at 2020 for an NR rifle here.

It takes a lot of time to go from prototyping to manufacturing a product as complex as a firearm.

Look at Glock, they're still developing their carbine! lol.

The NR (hopefully) version of the MDR is with the RCMP now, It was at shot show and submitted thereafter according to my Desert Tech dealer who I spoke to yesterday

So the 4 year wait begins.

By that time we'll know all of the issues with the MDR, so when these begin to hit our markets, the MDR 2.0 will be hitting the shelves down there, then we can wait another 4 years for the updated version!

So, 8+ years from now, should have the gun I'm looking for!

Looking forward to 2024!

Can anyone explain why the MDT is listed for $2,249 whereas the bolt SRS A1 is $5,091.
Typically same quality semi cost more than bolt???
two entirely different rifles and accuracy potential, that would be like asking why the SRS is cheaper than the HTI

You know better that the HTI is big magnum caliber like 50BMG so yes, expect 30 cal SRS is be much cheaper; NO Brainer.

The MDT and SRS I quoted are both Black 308/7.62x51 so yeah different but not entirely not comparable. Folks are always comparing the MH to high quality bolt rifle with semi MH being far more expensive than say a Sako/T3 Sportster.

Hopefully someone has an actual answer to my question of why the MDT is half price of bolt SRS for same caliber.

The SRS chassis is also technically a magnum unlike the MDR which is not available in 338 Lapua

The MH is overpriced (IMHO) and accuracy is not there compared to a SRS in 308, The MH I have played with (none mine) have not even been capable of 1MOA with premium factory ammo.

Acurracy of the MDR is unknown, but unlikely it will not be .5 MOA capable like the SRS is

Maybe a question for DT?
My opinion is that it is a combination of marketing and economy of scale. The MDT is competing for market share amongst rifles in the $2,000 range so making it more expensive would likely reduce sales numbers. Conversely the SRS competes against target rifles in higher price ranges. Somewhat interconnected is the projected numbers of guns to be sold. I expect that DT does not expect the same volume of sales in the SRS platform as the MDT. The SRS is more of a niche product, the MDT likely appeals to many more buyers. Higher production numbers results in lower production costs. Quality of manufacture is only one of several things that affect selling price.

And Shooting Centre, a DT dealer, would be perfect for asking the price differentiation question. Please let us know if they concur with the detail answer you provided.

Totally agree the MDT at the $2K USD price range would be very desirable. Too bad the SRS isn't $3k range, the niche $5k price tag is painfully steep.

Yeah, the DT for Desert Tech kinda stuck and extended to MDT. BUT wait, playing on the mistake Micro Dynamic Tactical by DT does have a nice ring to it.
What is MDT? The last 6 posts refer to MDT

Are you meaning MDR?
