Did you notice how AR is about to be prohibited?

Should I buy an AR now or not? And if I'm buying soon, will it become a safe queen in the future?

Get a stripped lower...$100-150 gets you in the door. If they're prohibited or GF'ed, you won't be out too much.

I have no firm opinion on the actual meaning of the Bill sections under discussion, but as a 12 [5] and [6] owner, I am all too aware of what might happen. No amount of lobbying or arguing changed anything there...it's obvious that slow confiscation is a reality...now we are just discussing details.

As a concerned Canadian, I want to do something to help. The issue I am having is that before I write a letter I need to know exactly to what end I am looking to achieve.

Can anyone help all of us with this? What types of things should I state/ Ask in a letter to my MP/ Minister of PS/ PMO?

Everyone needs to get active in politics, not just complain online. Surely some of the more senior mbrs here can help us younger folk by pointing us in the right direction for what to convey in my letters.

I suppose simply stating my distaste with the bill because It seems like it will allow the RCMP to prohib anything at any time will not generate any meaningful response.

How can I make my point more effective.

Thanks!

Okay, I get the idea but if I were to buy it now and assuming many others will do. Eventually, if AR become prohib then what happens? All existing ARs become grandfathered?

Probably yes. In the last ten years there have been over a dozen guns prohibited and confiscated without grandfathering. Czs and SANs had over 10,000 affected owners and it was enough for the conservatives to finally change the law and fix it, and even the liberals are now grandfathering them. There over 50,000 possibly 100,000 ARs out there. The more there are, the less likely the government will do anything at all.

Prohibiting the AR is not as easy. You gonna prohibit JUST the AR or anything AR? If anything AR we are talking about all Tavor, T97 and any guns that uses AR mags then cannot use LAR15 or AR mags? So if the AR mag (5 or 10 rds) is not banned what can you exactly ban? People will just replace the AR15 upper lower which whatever that can swap over. Funny all/most of those are now NR so yeah. Prohibit the AR and see tons of NR AR on the street... nice move. So, if they elevate all those into R status... you are just re-creating all the ARs you just prohibited. This can go on and on. To completely successfully ban all AR you have to pretty much ban a whole load of other semi-auto rifles or pistol carbine. Even AR15 stocks can be used on other guns. Ban all of them? That would make some guns without the stock? Make them shorter with that? Bolt action like Mossberg MVP, my Troy PAR all uses AR mags. My PAR uses AR trigger too. BTW, my pump shotgun came with AR stock. Ban them too? Prohibit AR... probably not as easy as one thinks. They might as well go out right ban all rifles semi or not in Canada.

anything currently restricted because it is an AR variant is what one of the new un named prohib classes is for. Since they are all restricted for the same reason, after the bill is pushed through it is a simple pen stroke to prohibit them all

Banning the AR would not stop other rifles from using it's parts like the stock/mags/trigger mechanism. You realize you can buy most parts of prohibited weapons right? Like AK magazines, ak stock, M16 LPK etc... It's the receiver that's banned. You're just spouting nonsense.

That's my point in case you don't get it at all. Banning AR15 will not reduce a single AR but will create more Non Restricted AR

Of course they will prohibit the AR under 12(9). This is the ultimate goal of this bill and the reason the 12(9) class exists. The AR is the primary target of every left wing gun control advocate. What possible reason would the rabidly anti gun Liberal party have to spare it?

Here is the Liberal Plan of attack:

1) Push the bill through as law using the CZ and SA owners as the "canary in the coal mine" (while also luring thousands of currently untraceable rifles into the registry with the promise of grandfathering)
2) Make AR/SKS/NEA/M14/Tavor... owners feel like they're safe to keep the rumblings to a minimum while the bill is made law
3) Once law, ask the RCMP (the Liberal gestapo) to prohibit the AR under 12(9) then advertise the great progressive victory all over the CBC (the Liberal propaganda machine) and other media outlets now getting funding from the Liberals.
4) Win a second Liberal majority term
5) Turn the RCMP loose on every semi auto rifle and pistol in the country until they are gone.

I see they're now trying to take attention off of the gun law changes with this pot bill announced right after it. Sneaky sneaky.

"Don't worry about guns, smoke some of these here Federally approved drugs."

Wow, are you really a gun owner and advocate or a Liberal shill/troll/Fudd?

Not sure how old you are, but I fought against C-68 back in the day.

We are creating new 12(*) classes they said ...
Don't worry, you can continue to take them to the range they said...
Then they said no you can't.

Net result? I have lockers full of 12(5)'s that are near-worthless and can never leave the house.
If you don't think they are coming for ALL self-loading rifles, you are a dreamer.

The AR-15 is absolutely on the top of their list, followed by anything that even remotely looks "scary".
With the SAN and CZ prohibition, the Liberal's are simply "testing the water".

So I ask you, are you really a gun owner and advocate or a Liberal shill/troll/Fudd?

Tell you what Commissar Vlad. The officer in charge of public well being and safety has told me you need to turn in all your semi autos pal. Its for the common good, you understand right? Oh and the paycheck you make every week.. Yah, that needs to be confiscated at an 80% rate each week. Sharing is caring..right?

12 (8) vs 12 (9)

Somebody asked me why 12 (9) if 12 (8) already exists? Seems a duplicate, messy and useless.

Well, not quite.

12 (8) allows GF for restricted and NR.
12(9) is only for restricted (they promised to ban AR)
12 (9) is allowed (along with 858 and Swiss) to have ATT (see att changes in c71) while all other prohibited including 12 (8) cannot.

Once AR15 is banned, they will still give you ATT to keep you quiet, "you can still take it to the range as before"

That is another hint/red flag that AR15 is about to be banned in the upcoming regs along with 858 and swiss.
