So SFRC just posted about them having some Breda/Beretta stripped M1 Garand recievers for sale.

I am not (generally) a "mil-surp" guy (not that I don't like them, just that I when "traditionalists" get all pissy about using "non-correct" parts on guns)
I do not hunt.
The 30-06 cartridge does not immediately appeal to me.

However, I do like working projects, and I've always thought the Garand was pretty cool design with the Canadian heritage and all.

So, the question is: Do I want one of these?

How hard is it to find parts to assemble a Garand (not perfect condition, "period-correct" parts, but just parts that all work together so that it's a functioning gun)?

If you have a Garand or plan on buying one for $50 pick one up you can't go wrong. If you have no interest in Garands, don't. It would be like buying a chassis for a car you have no other parts for and don't own to swap parts on, pointless. If your going for re sale sometime down the road and your a speculator like that go for it as well.

if you get the kuhnhausen book " the u.s. .30 caliber gas operated service rifle " shop manual .... it'll tell you how to go about doing it
- also there several good youtube vids on some parts of the process

it is quite a good deal on sfrc !

don't see the point is buying a stripped frame when 1000,s of m1,s will be coming into Canada .
But as others posted makes a cool paper weight

Well that is interesting coming from someone who might be in the know about things like that. Now I'm glad I didn't put the credit card number through when I had that receiver in the cart last night. When am I going to have time to find the parts, never mind put the thing together?

ah yes, the mythical korean garands of legend ? sorry to be sarcastic, but i've heard the same song n dance over the last 20 years

either way you break it down ... 50 bucks is a wicked price

a cmp barreled reciever in states is 350 ... and thats where they grow on tree's, not like up here

Picked up two of the Beretta frames. I will be making trades for the some of the parts from my American associates.Ebay is your friend and Pennsylvania and Ohio are a few hours from Seneca Niagara Casino/Hotel. A couple of comped nights and one planned road trip,Bingo! A M-1 Garand!
