DOE *Department Of Energy 9mm

I picked up a Colt 10.5" 9mm upper a few months ago along with the correct buffer and Colt Mags.

There are lots of options for a lower..... Dedicated Colt, CMMG or even a mag block.

But as I now have a 9mm Tavor, this project may need to wait until another day.

For reference sake I attended a FBI wounds ballistic seminar, and they are now withdrawing the MP5 & shotgun from operational use, they are also issuing 308 carbines to field agents & the DEA is just finishing its 308 trial.

308 carbines, that outta rock their world. :d

Who makes a 9mm AR pistol in the US? Then who imports them, then where do we get the mags???

Way back when I do believe it was Questar but they were short lived. RCMP wouldn't allow any more and then we were stuck with craptastic 10/32 promags. How that made sense I'll never know.

Metalform makes 10rd mags and they were/are the Colt OEM source. C Products had the Colt contract a few years back but it didn't last since their mags were very hit or miss, Colt went back to the more expensive but tried and true Metalform. Prior to all this you couldn't really buy Metalform except through Colt. Once Colt dropped them they started selling them to the public.

I have some interesting news.

I spoke with my contact in the States who makes the DOE replica barrel assemblies and he is willing to renew his DoS ITAR registration for the year if there is sufficient interest for a reasonably small run, say 60-100 units. Estimated landed cost would be $350-400 USD which includes the barrel, front sight assembly, handguards, and barrel nut; everything forward of the receiver.

This thread should be moved to the Black Rifles forum where it will get the correct exposure.

I would be down for one for sure!
