Who here has the highest round count on their DE? Can these guns withstand thousands of rounds? or will they fall apart long before? Have you managed to break anything?

Most of what I hear is problems with the .50 version, mainly caused by shooting cast lead and not properly cleaning it. I think it has a gas system on it. The smaller desert Eagles are based on the CZ if I remember correctly.

We break them all, regardless of calibre. These are definitely not a "high round count" pistol. Although the bling appeal makes them desireable nonetheless.

I owned a Desert Eagle XII - .357 Magnum....then used it as currency ($1,000.00 credit) to upgrade to a HK USP Tactical .45 Auto...VERY WORTH IT!!!

What can I say about the DEZ-E ?.....well, it was a piece of ####e. Sure it looks cool, but very un-reliable, poor craftsmanship (Isreal/IMI), prone to malfunctions (Even when using proper 158 gr. JHP's and NOT "limp-wrist'n)

It is relatively accurate but is intimidating for shooters not use to handling "heavy hitterz". I must say thought....the barrel is excellent internally. Just like a Glock or Heckler&Koch is has the polygonal (sp???) rifling which gives it added velocity and longer barrel life, not to mention a breeze to clean.

Last words.......dont get one unless its brand spanking new and you've got $$$$$ to support it. You'd be much better off buying a HK Mark 23 SOCOM .45 Auto or a USP Tactical...if thats your thing?

Good luck.

I have owned a couple Desert Eagles in 44 mag and I find that they are fine just needs a lot of TLC cleaning after every use and you need to get a new recoil spring about every 500 rounds but yeah I upgraded to my Mark 23 and that is worth every penny and more!!!!

Hmmm mine has close to 1000 rounds through it... maybe more. the only problem i have with mine is 1 ammo is spendy, 2 the safety screw backs out after 200 rounds but I just tighten it up again, 3 maybe 1 in 20 times the slide wont lock back after the last round is fired. Thats about it..... I found with certain ammo it jammed, but with CCi Blazers it never jammed once with them and thats all I use in mine. I guess Im just blessed. I do think its time for new recoil springs though.

EDIT: Incase you missed it mines a .44 mag

Yep - Lead is forbidden in a DE. It clogs the gas ports in front and will destroy the gun.

Not only are these things expensive, you've got to feed 'em the good stuff. You can protect your investment by being meticulous about keeping the ports clean - carbon can build up and clog them too, just not as fast.

For the money, there are so many superior guns out there....

well lets see I have a .50 AE and have had it for more than 10 years. It's had around 10,000 rounds through it. Mostly hot hand loads. I just did a spring replacement on it last year. Zero problems with it. I clean it about every 500 rounds or so, although the last time was more like 1100 rounds. It gets used and abused at my gunshow every year, and about 250-300 rounds go through it in one day. So long as you grip it tight it functions fine. The only thing I've ever had to do to it is tighten up the screw that holds the safety on.

My DE 44 hasn't had any mechanical problems at all. As long as it is relatively clean, lubed properly and not limpwristed, it just keeps going. And I only paid $600 for it, barely used.

I have a .44 Mark XIX with around 2000 maximum H110 handloads through it and I have ZERO problems with it. I have never replaced a single part, nor have I ever had to tighten or retighten anything on it. Makes me wonder about the people who constantly bad mouth this gun. What crap are they feeding it, and what if any maintenance are they performing on it?

Some of the early ones have a separate gas piston assembly that isn't pinned in; instead, it depends on an extension off of the muzzle end of the recoil spring assembly to keep it in place, but if you reassemble it incorrectly, you will bend the piston attachment and squash the hell out of the tab that's supposed to keep it in place.

I gotta side with Slavex, 757 and Coyote on this. I have 2 DE s both 44 mag 1 is first production other is 4 th gen. Both get shot LOTS and I have had no problems. They do like to be clean , shoot good ammo and NO lead.
When shot limp wristed they will stovepipe, but my 1911s will as well.
Are they a practical pistol,? probably not, but very pleasant to shoot, take up lots of room in the safe and I would not want to be without at least 1.
No collection is complete without 1 in it

I'll chime in here...

I had a Mark .44 Magnum Desert Eagle for awhile, bought it used and installed new springs. It ran perfectly, and was a really accurate handgun. I had zero problems with it, and only sold it because I wanted something else more at the time. I used only jacketed bullet factory loads and reloads in this pistol. I observed it to be a very well made and rugged pistol.

Jeff/1911.

as Jeff says, they are very accurate guns, very very accurate. With a scope I would say probably 1 inch at 50 yds is not only possible, but easy in the right persons hands.
