Elcan SpecterDR out of the box

It is a rather spectactular sight to use though. Most people that look through them are astounded with how nice they are.
I agree. I've looked through all the expensive stuff that I'll most likely never own at the store and when I looked through the specter DR it was quite a thing of beauty. But I'd still rather go with a 200$ optic and spend the majority of my money buying new guns. I would however spend that type of money if I had to use my rifle all day everyday i.e. if I was deployed or something and in that case you dont spend any money cause all your stuff is issued :p

Not always is gear issued guy's do spend alot of money on gear for a deployment. Maybe in the Canadian army you do get everything I don't know bout that.
All I know is the CF has brave well trained ass kickers that have both hands tied behind ther backs by a horrible command structure.

I've owned one - sold it and got a NF 1-4x instead. No regrets. The biggest thing I disliked - the ARMS lever mounts!!! THose things SUCK! No adjustment capability... I've bent the levers trying to get them off... needed to use a thick spoon and prrrrry it open. If your rail is underspec, you need to use shims made of cut up pop cans... realllly nice! ;)

The optics ARE very very good, as is the FOV. The weight, combined with the ARMS levers, made me look for a change. I'm assuming the bases are 'better' than the fixed 4x Elcans, but I still don't get why Elcan doesn't make something with internal adjustments (ACOG like). For a range monkey like me, it's probably not an issue either way.

Thanks for the comments from everyone. It will be a while until it is mounted. Meanwhile here's a size and weight comparison with familiar objects. It's 120 g heavier than the 'made. And feels so rock solid that it would tolerate some really rough handling or conditiions.

2k optics and under spec rails……more details please.

Why would there need to be an adjustment if everything is built to spec? If you have/had an undersized rail and you were shimming with a pop can, I have to really question if there were any problems with the optic or mount.

I didnt have any mounting issues with mine. The weight sounds heavy until you compare it with a scope and mount (so many people seem to forget that when looking at weight)

I should clarify - I didn't have the issue (shimming) personally - I've just read about it on Arfcom and M4C.net. :) I HAVE had it where the ARMS levers were waaay too tight on rails.

Do people really LIKE the ARMS levers? ADM are adjustable. Larue are adjustable... why not ARMS?

I can tell you with certainty that any of my ADM or Larue mounts don't just swap directly over to ALL my other guns without a little tweaking. The ADM on my SR15 needs adjustment when I move it to my FS2000. Or over to the ACR. All I'm saying is that ARMS has no adjustability - and trusting that EVERY rail is identical is somewhat foolish.

I agree, no matter how "standardized" some things are, there'll always be some irregularites.

Okay, that is one of the nicest setups I've seen. ALBERTA Tactical rifle? I'm going to look them up I believe. THANKS WINGSUIT!

It's an ATRS lower, but a DD upper.

I also have an ATRS lower and it is a nice lower for sure. Little maple leaf makes a nice touch. ;) Rick at ATRS is a sponsor on here - he's in Calgary.
