Elcan SpecterDR out of the box

most of the problems reported were by people who "heard it from another guy" or from a few guys in the U.S. who couldn't fathom that Canadians might have better quality gear than they do...and it was made in Canada..

there were a very few legitimate problems reported with the first generation mounts and that switching from 1x to 4x would cause you to lose zero, but both were either dealt with or easily explained..

the original ARMS mounts were pretty good but there were a few in the bunch with issues.... new product growing pains, problem resolved.

some shooters were zeroing the elcan 1-4x at 100m on 1x magnification when they should have zeroed on 4x...the difference in POI was off by a few inches if you zeroed at 1x and tried shooting groups at 100m using the 4x magnification, whereas a 4x zeroed optic stayed true at 100m on both 1x and 4x @ 100m.... again problem solved...

Thanks for clearing that up. I've read a few negatives around the net, but never found anything that explained what the "problems" were exactly.

Just got back from the range, minus about 250 rds. At 4x I was hitting zombies in the head (105 metres) repeatedly. (Tavor, 855 5.56 nato ammo).

Sure.

$50 a pay until Christmas will net you most of the cost
For this sight.

Thats what I do. Every pay set play-dough aside.

Had my 1.5/6x on my Black Special at 300m and shot a 3 shot sub-MOA group from a cold barrel. Packed it up and moved on to my other rifles. Not going to beat that! Haha!

That's nice to hear (great shooting btw) the 1.5x/6x is the one I'm saving for now. Only problem is deciding which rifle to mount it on, but I figure if that's my biggest problem life can't be to bad LOL.

ARMS mounts are notorious fickle -- not only will they not fit well on the older CF/Diemaco upper "weaver spec" rails (due to the cross slot width) they will eventually wear and loosen over time.

The US Army does not use any ARMS Mounts - its SOCOM, someone at Crane is a big #### fan, and always requires them, there was a bunch of nonsense about LT mounts screwing up guns - which si possible if you tighten the mount to retarded - but not an issue other than that.

As mentioned above ARMS now has adjustable lever to account for the adjustment issues.

I've shimmed a number of guns with ARMS mounts in the past -- it would not be my personal choice for a Throw Lever design due to the number I've broken as well.

Personally I just dislike the exposed adjustment mechanism.

If somebody built a proper mount for the spectre I'd really like to own one.

I personally know a number of people who have had issues with the mount in the field. They are not people concerned with whether the gear they run is Canadian or American. Only that it works.

I bought the specter os3.0 3x fixed with the 556 reticle from coretac. Put it on my xcr in 5.56. I absolutely love it! Only had to zero it in for distance. Left to right was right on straight out of the box. Target acquisition is amazing with the large eye piece. I would put it up against an acog any day!

I looked through the Eclan SpecterDR the other day and... I don't think I've ever used a better red dot optic. It's really the light gathering ability that sets it apart from any other I've used.

Being able to switch to x4 magnification without another scope is great too.
