I have found myself looking into black rifle optics options a lot lately, as I am aiming to get back into the non-restricted black rifle game in the next few months. Naturally, I have looked into the options available from Elcan, which led me to wonder...

Why the heck isn't an Elcan OS 3.0 clamped onto every black rifle rail in Canada?

To me, it seems to offer everything an ACOG offers (with different means of illumination) for hundreds of dollars cheaper ($1020 when not on sale)... I see ACOGs all over this forum, but have yet to see a single OS 3.0. Searching here on CGN, a few guys have tossed in a post giving it a thumbs up, but any kind of review has been illusive.... google, youtube turn up nada.

For the shooter looking for a quality fixed magnification black rifle optic, this sight seems like a no-brainer. I can only make the assumption that the specter OS 3.0 is going to offer typical Elcan quality, but has failed to gain popularity because it isn't being used by the elite door kickers of western world?

If you have firsthand experiences or photos, please share!

The OS3A (BDC) is $1020. The OS3B (adjustable target turrets) is a couple of hundred dollars more and well worth in. (my pricing is from memory - if somebody finds different current pricing please correct me).

The optic is a well kept secret for some reason. Elcan really does not promote it.

Solidly built, excellent glass, slightly narrower field of view than the C79. Durable (1m drop on concrete thanks to my fumble fingers) with no damage (rubber bumpers helped I think). Repeatable adjustments with zero stop. Range markings on dial are true for 62gn from a 20in barrel. Easy enough to make sure drop chart for different bullet weights/barrels. Have done same for short range adjustments (CQB)

I love mine. Used it in SR and CQB for 3 yrs now. 10 yds to 500. Even shot PR with it to 700.

Optic has never let me down. Armament Technology in Halifax distributes and they have been great with product support (extra bumper, replacement screw for same, rear rubber eye piece cover.

A winner in my experience.

I apologize for the horrendous pic.
Elcan os3x on my ACR. If you're looking for a high quality fixed 3x optic it's near the top of the list for sure. Very nice piece of glass. Huge field of view! I think the main reason you don't see a lot on these is that most people go straight to the DR 1-4x. I like mine but have been seriously considering going to the 1-4x as I mainly shoot with red dots so I think I'd use the 1x more.

Great little optic. I had an OS4 lined up for my ACR, but when Canada Post lost it, I went with the OS3 instead, as I found a great price on a lightly used one. I'd say I prefer my OS4, but for the price I paid, the OS3 is a steal :)

I'm still deciding between an OS4 with a small red dot on top or a DR 1/6 for when my Modern Varmint shows up. I'll probably save 1500$ or so and go for a OS4 and red dot combo.
I wish they made a fixed 6x.

FYI I got mine a couple months ago from CanadaAmmo for $900, it's the B (target turret) model, they still have some at that price, and it's impressed me quite a bit. I couldn't find too much info on them online before I bought it, but am glad I took the chance. It's mounted on a 12.5" PWS.
