Elegant advice from a store owner /sarcasm

Wrong.

First rule is to treat customers in a way that ensures they happily come back.

Second, the customer is always right.

I agree with your statement to treat customers well.

Not all customers deserve to be treated well, nor are they always right.

Your experience with the store clerk was unprofessional and another shop will help you better.

The level of retardation that some store owners have in giving their advice baffles me. I walk into a store ready to drop $4-700 on a new .22lr pistol. now i wasn't sure on which model to buy, but i can clearly say i've done all my homework on the models and other than handling them i had cash on hand for whichever item fit my palm best.

I ended up coming to the conclusion between two that fit well. S&W mp22 and the ISSC m22
my first question was if he had personally had heard of any issues with the ISSC brand? The owners clear response of
"well you got the big mitts, buy the M&P. (the more expensive one) the issc is small. its meant for chicks you know. Is your wife going to shoot it?"
just stunned me... i put the guns down and said "Thanks anyways"

My question was clearly about the brand name. Not regarding what gender the pistol is meant for. Let alone having the knowledge to suggest what "Fits me best"

I think i'll drive 45minutes further north for the fantastic service of Ellwood Epps!

I guess the question is... were you looking at the pink one? http://frontierfirearms.ca/issc-m22-pink-22lr.html
Then yes, I would say it is designed for chicks... this is something I would get for my wife

After 30 years in retail, I can assure you that the customer is frequently wrong.

Of course, it's rarely a good idea to point that out.

Then, by your tacitness, they walk away thinking they are right.

Some here may be in the retail business, but a good retail clerk or business owner knows that rule #2 is the attitude to take in customer relations, whether the customer is really right or not.

If you think that is out of line, you're obviously not making the profits you should be...

On the discount topic, I also hope for/expect something when I'm dropping a grand on a rifle. I don't know what the profit margin is but there's no way some targets or a box of ammo can't be thrown in. It's a competitive market, yes, but the customers who come back to buy all the little things will be the source of your recurring income while the gun sales are going to be your large "bump" items. Making me happy with a little extra something is just a good idea.

As for OP - the clerk gave a stupid answer and lost a sale. Not everyone would have left. Why is that such a big deal to people?

With a few exceptions the people who own/work at gun shops are arrogant #######s. Why? Because they can be. They have limited competition and if you walk out miffed there are usually 5 customers standing behind you ready to buy the gun you just didn't. We're a captive customer base and these pricks know it. Of course there are the exceptions. Where I live Reliable Gun has the best goddamn staff and service you'll ever find. They don't have to be that way. They're always packed. But they choose to treat their customers with respect.

He shoulda come o attention and called you "sir" too I'll bet.

Holy cow....

So, not to be rude, are you ###. Do you have a husband instead?

I am just wondering because I always find small talk like that, while the owner sounds a bit uncouth, I am not sure he was trying to call you manly as a insult.

Well i hope that gun store worker learned his lesson.... Wait, no he didn't because instead of letting him know he was out of line, u cowardly cry about it on a forum and complain! You should have told him that you were offended and you're taking your business elsewhere because he was unprofessional.

I think the waaaaaambulance should rush to the scene of this thread to treat all the butt hurt. Hahahaha.

If a sentence like this offends you, then I think YOU are the problem.

Don't be such a loser.

Haha, CGN is so awesome.
