ELEY Ammunition

Great info. I assume this is their results at 50m?

So for that big list, double those numbers to get the group diameter for 68% of the shots, then double it again to cover 2 standard deviations for approx 95% of the shots.

39% land within 1xRSD, 86% land within 2xRSD, and 99% land within 3xRSD. The 68/95/99.7 rule is for a single variable like x, and it is 39/86/99 for two variables like x/y.

do you mean flyers or outliers that are inches from the main group? @100?

Several inches is a bit extreme. But it's about a inch or so from the main group. I noticed a trend with my 100 yards targets from the last 2 challenges. The last 2 targets will have a noticable flier in each group.

I've shot a match where a shot landed to the left by a bit. So I aim off to the right more and landed in the same spot. But like I said it's the best ammo I can get local without paying shipping or driving hours.

How much are you buying to where shipping changes your mind? You quite often get free shipping with gotenda after you pass $300. They've had Eley Club on for the same price as Sport for quite a while now, too. Sometimes targetshootingproducts beats them even after you factor in shipping, at least when you're talking about buying by the case.

Nordic wanted 82$ for shipping 2 bricks of STD +. Now I never asked Hirsch. But it's one if those I need to try and see if is worth the switch. I'm still trying to get CT to bring some in

Wow, yeah, $82 for shipping 2 bricks is absolutely insane. I paid $115 shipping for 21 bricks back in August (2 cases and one mixed brick for lot testing), and $96 for 10 bricks about a month after that. But that's to Vancouver Island from targetshootingproducts in Toronto. I guess the more you buy the more it spreads the cost out. I'm still surprised it is free shipping from some places sometimes, heh.

FWIW - I just made an order with Tenda for just over $300 an the website automatically added ca $40 shipping. I switched 'Shipping' to 'Free Shipping' button and the order went thru. I'll Update if they 'change' the order to add shipping. 2K of CCI-SV and 3 boxes of x39 SP (not much 'reasonable' SP prices out there). S/B about 20# or so, Not very 'Overweight' IMO. We'll see.
PS - Solely has SK Magazine for ca $90, which I use for 'fouling' for the 'better ammo'. Tenda didn't have any of that avail...

Pasting from another thread with info from Eley's current product brochure.

Eley actually lists the expected shot radius SD for all their ammo in their brochure, removing the need for any speculation as to which one should be better. Just don't forget, in every case it still matters whether or not a particular lot number gets along with your gun.

Tenex 3.75 mm
Tenex Pistol 4.05 mm
Tenex Biathlon 4.50 mm
Match 4.74 mm
Match Pistol 4.90 mm
Semi-Auto Benchrest Precision 4.90 mm
Team 5.50 mm
Club 5.50 mm
Biathlon Club 5.50 mm
Sport 7.00 mm
Target 7.00 mm
Bullseye Pistol X 7.00 mm
Contact 7.00 mm
Force 7.00 mm
Semi-Auto Benchrest Outlaw 7.00 mm

And for these few rounds they list Max MG, or maximum mean group size.

Tenex Rapid Fire Pistol 20 mm
High Velocity Hollow 30 mm
Subsonic Hollow 43 mm

So that gives you Eley's expectations from their test barrels, anyway. Shows how their whole product line is ranked.

Do any of the other big brands provide a breakdown like this? I'm a numbers guy, so I really like seeing it broken down like this rather than just "X is better than Y which is better than Z..."

Not that I'm aware of, which is too bad. It would sure be nice if they did share their own expectations like that. Even given that we won't see the same results in our own random rifles it would still be nice to know how they decide to grade their stuff.

Sad thing is, it is same province and only 3 hours away. But that is one way, and may be more to drive than ship. But I started to give contact a try. They had Edge but all the reviews never produced anything close to a half inch group at 50. Why I like to try Club.

So for the price point we set for limited div, SK seems to be the best. STD plus, RM and LR.

I recently started shooting Eley ammo after being dissatisfied with many of the lots of Lapua. From Exact down the line to Center X I found poor results in numerous rifles. I did have a great lot of SK LR but it ran out after a few matches and was unable to purchase anymore. Switched to Eley and have had great results with the SemiAuto Benchrest Precision. It has performed beyond expectations in my custom semis and surprisingly well in my different Anschutz rifles.
