EMT Only to Buy a Sporting Rifle?

I like emt. It works very well. Don't be such a Luddite.

I've received emt payment for stuff sold, but have never had need to use it to buy items so I guess that makes me a Luddite.
There are only two members on this sight that I'm comfortable dealing with and they are happy with whatever method of payment is used.
As for other purchases from dealers then out comes Mr. Visa....

No. I'm too stuborn. lol. I have on line banking to pay bills but haven't got around to the next step. My bank is 300kms away and I need to show up to do that, no affiliate up here. I'm not saying it isn't a smart thing to do .. this EMT but I am saying there will always be quite a few folks that for whatever reason won't have it. And again it pisses me off when some sellers demand it, for no good reason that I can determine.

yeah, I hear ya! My Credit Union in town doesn't have that service.

No. lol. Yeah of course they do they can ask to trade it for 49 virgins its their gun. They'll only make a few of us grumpy ####ers mad if they demand EMT that's all.

Thanks guys I appreciate the feed back for real I didn't realise how far the emoney tidal wave has gone in places.

Typically speaking, if I am selling a gun it's because I want to buy another gun when I don't have enough money in the slush fund to cover the purchase... Its a p.i.t.a to have to wait for funds via snail mail then to have to go cash it (I work 8-6 most days)... I keep a good trader rating by making quick transactions... Get the money, ship the gun... Give tracking digits... I have made exceptions for guys that had no emt but by far as a seller it's the easiest way to go...

EMT's are great, but I would never not work with a fellow Gun Nutter on payment types. I like to think we're all friends on this site, and we should help each other out, who cares if you have to go *gasp* "outside" to cash a m/o.

My Generation is living a life of instant gratification, we want everything now, now, now. Direct Deposit paychecks, EMTs, Cell phones to call people right now, fast food, faster food, fastest food, 30 minutes or its free, 15 minute oil changes, over the counter tax returns, its a pathetic existence really.

For gods sake, my grand father still writes letters to his MP, and drives to the auto wrecker to get truck parts because "Phones are a bunch of f****** Bull****", I dont think I've ever talked to him on the phone in my life.

Im just to young to know how to deal with money orders, cod or POD, western stuff... all might as well be smoke signals to me
I just found out last night that they charge money for cheques, like the kind I need to write out for my new rental agreement.
Might as well all be smoke signals to me.
Now EMT, (FRAUD ALERT), those are what I know..
If I had to pay a bill at the bank, I would be screwed.
My car insurance for the past 7 years has come out automatically,
and I think the last time i stepped into my actual bank, was atleast a year and a half ago...

Its as easy as doing what people back in the day did...and it works, I've done it.

Message the seller...

"Hey pard, I want that gun, but I'm strapped right now. Do you think you can hold it for another week for me, and I'll promptly send you the cheddar?

Much appreciated,

Mr. _________ "

I have had two MO/drafts lost in the mail, the bank will do nothing for many months. I had to send second Money orders in both cases. Surprisingly both lost money orders arrived several months later, still prior to the period for the bank to cancel and refund. The seller mailed them back and I took to bank for refunds. An emt costs 1.00 at my bank and payment received within the hour. I get free MO service at my bank but for others cost is around 7.00 combined with the pain of getting the MO and Expresspost at 12.00 for a MO which i recommend for the tracking number, the emt makes sense. But I will still use both, although I can't buy guns from on vacation in another country with a MO very easily.

When I DON'T like the terms of someone else's sale I just don't buy. Simple.

Most folks would like to get the deal over with as soon as possible.
EMT tonight and parcel in the mail tomorrow.
EMT in the morning and parcel in the mail the same day.
None of this waiting for three or four days for a moohlah order or cheque
to show up. Then wait the ten days for the cheque to go through.
Where are we, third week of the month now?
Then another week for the parcel to show up at the other end of Kanerder.
A month goes by and the questions run through the mind.....did it make it,
are they happy with it..........yaddyblahyaddyblah.....

EMT rocks.

Now I need to send one............HELLO Mr. Seller...............
Dun.......whooooooooooot.........

Now off to CP tracking every dang fifteen minutes.....

I sell using EMT only. Why, because I sold an item on the EE once and the guy said he will send me a cheque tomorrow. It's sending from Manitoba to Alberta and it took over 6 weeks to arrive. The item was listed for $25. PM'd him numerous times and he reassured me that the cheque was sent out the next day. It finally arrived and I checked the post mark, it was only sent 4 days ago. Screw this, huge waste of my time wondering if he actually bought it or wants it. PITA having to screw around for over 6 weeks before shipping it out.

I wouldn't want to put someone on the spot like that... Why should someone have to wait for me to scrape up cash when they could sell their gun to another gunnut who has cash in hand? It's not about the instant gratification factor, it's the simple fact that business is business and money talks and bull#### walks...

I have held guns for several cgn'rs in the past (providing they have good trader ratings)... But I have also had to deal with the excuses when they couldn't come through with the cash... "My car broke down"... "I got sick and couldn't go to work so my pay was small"... Etc etc... I am all for being compassionate but really, if you have no cushion in the bank or savings behind you you shouldn't be buying a gun...

The last time I accepted a Postal MO for payment, I had to go to the PO 2 or 3 times before they 'had enough cash in the till' to cash the thing. IIRC it was around $1200.

Never again. Time is too valuable; wasted time is too expensive.

I was reluctant to embrace EMT at first. It was a hassle to set up. I had to open an account at a new bank (TD) to get EMT. But after loosing several sales and purchases because I did not have EMT I finally caved. Now I am one of the annoying guys who says "EMT ONLY" on his EE ads. When you are buying and selling several items at once, the instant online payment and tracking is very convenient (especially for inexpensive items).
One plus side, for me, about the separate account is that I now have a dedicated "firearms" bank account with no spousal oversight :) . The proceeds of any sales I make on CGN go straight into the TD account and any EE purchases on CGN come form the same account.
