Enfields

The Enfield (Indian Version, I would assume Ishapore 2A) still going strong. Wow what a life span.

Hello friends!

I live in Vancouver and I am seriously considering getting an Enfield. However, I have a question;

Where can I find an enfield near me? preferably a no4 mk1, however I would be fine with a no1 mk3 also. Secondly, what kind of a price tag would I be looking at? I frequently read that one can find an enfield in/around Ottawa for somewhere around 150-170ish, but I sometimes also see very expensive prices for them too.

Thank you for your help!

It depends of what you want. If you are looking for a sporterized one, I never pay more than 150$ and I bought some at 75$. If you are looking for an original one... 400$ is cheap and it can goes to the roof! You have to give more details of what you want to have a better idea!

I'm looking at finding an original, unmodified Lee Enfield, preferably around the $200 mark, no more. However, since you mention that a sporter is so cheap, just out of curiosity, where would you have found one?

Well, I have seen some price listings of the 150-200 range, however the location of the listings are nowhere near me. Is there any way to ship firearms in Canada like you can down in the US?

I don't really mind a beat up Enfield, as long as the damage is not a hazard to shoot with.

Also, is it possible to buy a rifle in the US and bring it here without too much hassle?

I'm sorry for the bombardment of questions. :)

You'll never find a non-sporterized one for the $200 you are looking to spend. In case you aren't sure what we mean when we say Sporterized, basically, the gun won't have it's original stock. It will be in a traditional hunting rifle stock. Sporterized ones can be had for $100-$200 ish, one with an original stock will be much more. There is the option to buy a sporterized one and find the original stock pieces for it, but you are looking at around $150+ to find all the pieces to make it look original.

Shipping a gun in Canada is easy. It can be shipped through Canada Post without issue.

Buying a gun down south and bringing it up here is not typically worth it for something so readily available here. Between import fees and what-not you'll be adding a few hundred dollars to the cost.

I would recommend accessing the "Equipment Exchange" on this site and looking through the "Military Surplus Rifle" category. Many Lee Enfields show up on there on a regular basis. Look around for a while to see how prices vary. Then when you find one you love (and can afford) buy it. Another option is talk to the guys at your local gun club. Seems everyone either has, or knows someone who has, a Lee Enfield. You might be able to find a deal locally that way

You could also go to the HACS monthly gunshow. They used to be in Burnaby, but now I think they have moved to Chilliwack. A lot of overpriced junkers there, but there are some jewels to be found. Three years ago I bought a pristine wire wrap 1942 #3 MK1* Lithgow for $265!!

Hello everyone,

I'm from Ontario and looking to buy a No 4 Mk I. If anyone has information or is selling one, it would be appreciated to get in touch.

Hi Pete;

You need to access the Equipment Exchange (you need to ask permission), and then post a WTB add in the Milsurp section of the EE.
You should have no problem finding one there, but that really depends on what your are willing to pay.

Cheers

Hi all, hopefully this isn't out of line to ask this outside of the equipment exchange forum but here it goes...
My Dad handed down an old .303 British to me and I've been practicing with it at the range. I'd like to take it hunting this fall however I only have the ten round magazine that came with the rifle. I believe the hunting regs here in Alberta state you can only hunt big game with a five round magazine...does anyone know where one could look for a five round mag for the .303 or is it a matter of pinning the ten round mag? Thanks in advance and sorry if this has already been posted.

Someone with Alberta hunting experience might be able to comment better but I looked on THIS Alberta Regs Page and found nothing for rifle magazine limits except this:

"It is unlawful to set out, use or employ any of the following items for the purpose of hunting big game:
...an auto-loading firearm that has the capacity to hold more than 5 cartridges in the magazine"

Since an Enfield is manually operated this rule would not apply to you

Lee-Enfield: .22 Mark IV w/Cooey rear aperture sight

Canadian .22 trainer.

Picked this up the other day. According to Skennerton its a .22 Mark IV (a 1917 Mk III* converted by Parker-Hale to fire .22 RF) with an H. W. Cooey No. 10A rear sight (patented in 1925, adapted from the Canadian Ross Rifle).
