Same ShtLE No1 MkIII* that i just posted. In my Internet research, I believe I have discovered that the mark on the right is the inspector's stamp. Does anyone know what the "UT" and "E" on the left is?

Thank you, great eye! How do you think this would happen? The stock was removed for cleaning and the rifle was reassembled incorrectly?
 
I have a Martini Enfield 303 sitting way in the back of my safe. Best I can tell it's matching numbers, but sights added to it by a previous owner. Can you guys tell me anything about it? What's it worth?

Didn't I just see that on EE? No1 Mk3* in a nice sporter stock. Factory refurbed in 53. Similar sporters with blander stocks and no scope go for 150-250

The problem is that since it's drilled and tapped, it has zero collector value. Can't even properly be restored.

You can also get rifles that shoot a similar cartridge, but instead of $1.50 to $2.50 a shot for .303 British , they're $0.25 to $1.00
 
Hi all,

I just passed my non-restricted safety course yesterday, and am interested in getting a Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1 in the future. I have seen a couple around, but they are either mash ups/home assembled or are sporterized... i'm looking for the real thing (active service if possible).

Any idea how much I should be paying on average for the following? Assumed to be in good working order for shooting.

Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1 (British made)
Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1* (British made)
Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1 Long Branch
Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1* Long Branch

I know the Long Branch rifles are generally more expensive in Canada. I suppose the question is "how much more..?" So far I have only seen them for $1200 or more on this site... That seems like a little much...

Generally speaking, how much is reasonable to pay for a decent quality Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1?

The 7.62 conversions are an amazing history of the Enfield rifle. I was fortunate years ago to find a few. The L39A1 with the PH style stock that was an ex RAF-Germany rifle is one that I was pleased to find to find. Records show the Enforcer was shipped to the Northern Ireland Royal Ulster Constabulary on 24th March 1977 and the Envoy was dispatched to Fultons of Bisley, 24th April 1970, accurized, and marked PALMA MATCH BISLEY 1970 for that matches that year.

Irish or Greek return??

Back in the good old days when I used to order mil surps from the "Gunrunner" magazine, I bought an Enfield No.4 Mk1* which was supposed to be from a batch of Irish surplus that were brought back and sold on the surplus market. I brought out the rifle and was giving it a clean up and look-see, and decided to check on it's position on the Enfield desirability scale.
Seems what I found was that the Irish rifles were mostly No. 4 Mk II, and did not have their serial number stamped on the magazine. The Greeks were supposed to have matching magazines.

So what's up?











And it came with a bayonet, the pig sticker that looks like one of my old screwdrivers;



It's very nice, and I haven't shot much through it when I got it, and nothing in the past 15+ years. Cleaned the stock with Murphy's Oil Soap and reapplied raw linseed oil as per the original factory finish. The barrel is marked 1951.

I totally agree regarding the Enforcer value though I can also see the point of view of the "Military Enfield" collector who sees them as a police rifle. Honestly with the relative scarcity of these rifles I would take any one I could find in my price range right now.

I am interested in getting a Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1 or a No.1 Mk3 in the future. I haven't seen many around though, and what i have seen seems pricey. I'm looking for an active service rifle if possible too..

i'm just waiting for my background check to go through now and I'm looking at getting an Enfield. Can anyone recommend any good books on them, or on any other common milsurps? I might get a Mosin, too.
 
Anyone have any idea what these markings are? I've been trying to look up what they denote since the Butt plate is a 1953, and the Actual rifle itself is a 1954/55 Mk4 No2 Fazakerley.
The markings look like a E in a diamond, 3 crossed rifles (BSA?), B, and either a very small F or and E in a diamond.

There isn't a more authoritative book than The Lee Enfield Story by Skennerton.
 
I gotta ask because I have never gotten a consensus, how many Long Branch rifles out there are C Broad Arrow marked? I have had a few LB's go through my hands and so far only one was C Broad Arrow marked on the receiver.
