Enfields

Carb cleaner eh well if it doesn't hurt anything ... I've read part of the rifle and bolt are blued error browned to protect them but it's so dirty hard to tell which parts. I'll Google for the tool to take the pin out thanks I think it could use a good cleaning and id like to take care of it.

I have no connection to the seller, but it's a member here and the tool is in Canada, which might be quicker to get. Seems well made.

Help to identify

Wondering if anyone could give me a ball-park price for this rifle marked 1945 on the other side and with other markings as shown.
I believe it's an Enfield Sporter but really don't know these rifles very well. A friend wanted to know what he picked up.

This capture is from the movie 'The Somme'. Apparently technical advice was lacking.

I read somewhere they had a real problem locating ''original" firearms that were DEWATS and period correct for the movie, so they had No4s "modified" slightly to do the job.

Many movie companies have been having similar issues as of late. Due to it being very expensive for the companies that provide the firearms as props for them.

About twenty years ago, the prices of the pieces in their armories started doubling every few years. It didn't take very long for them to realize that they could sell those rifles through different distributors for enough profit to retire or pay off their debt lines.

Not only that but the popular movies at the time, used later firearm types and AIRSOFT was making those up much cheaper than the real ones. Computers did the rest.

I agree with Cosmic but it doesn't appear to be a commercial makeover.

The sights are aftermarket Williams type and the original rear sight mounts are still in place. Usually they're milled off, which indicates the work may have been done by the individual that bought it originally from surplus configuration.

That magazine looks to be a well worn replacement.

Whoever did the job, did it much better than most bubbas of the period.

The rear sight does not have a blade it has an aperture. Recommend you determine specifically what you want and then post a WTB ad under Exchange of Military Surplus part of this forum

Excuse me Guys. Is there any good source out there that would help me to educate myself before I will start fitting a NOS forend to No1 Mk3 action? It’s one of the post war Ishapore forestocks. I understand that I will need No4 stock bolt for that, but I would appreciate some guidance here. I did some initial measurements in comparison to the sporter stock that the rifle was sitting in. Indian wood is much beefier with additional reinforcements. Any book, brochure or video that I should get now? Thanks in advance for your help.

I would recommend joining "milsurps" forum and spending a lot of time going over threads on fitting forends. With some effort you'll find threads with photo documentation, which really helps. It's a trial and error process with emphasis on error the first time you try do it.

Thanks,
I did some reading already :) Shouldn't be too bad as long as one doesn't rush the process it seems. I have a couple of other stocks to compare the inner works to, and general understanding of the bedding idea. It's a pretty good quality forend, despite the general displeasure of anything Ishapore voiced by many. Anyway, much appreciated. Cheers!

Site is in excellent shape besides for a screw head a little messed up. What I didn’t expect is that he had a couple of sets of original Lee Enfield #4 wood sets for sale. The dark one is Longbranch except for the rear hand guard which is Fazakerly. The second set is a miss match. I couldn’t leave them as the price too good. They do have some marks from use but a great find. The bands I put on from my parts to see what would fit. Now to see about digging a #4 out and putting one together.

What did you pay for that if you don't mind?

I just got a No4 mk1 sporter, but with an uncut barrel. The goal is to hopefully one day dress it back up properly. I know there are kits, but I'd rather use original. But this is a future thing...
