Enfields

View attachment 614880Found a Parker site 5C today on GP and decided to go get it. About 1 1/2 hour drive away from me. Always wanted one but never seemed to happen. Site is in excellent shape besides for a screw head a little messed up. What I didn’t expect is that he had a couple of sets of original Lee Enfield #4 wood sets for sale. The dark one is Longbranch except for the rear hand guard which is Fazakerly. The second set is a miss match. I couldn’t leave them as the price too good. They do have some marks from use but a great find. The bands I put on from my parts to see what would fit. Now to see about digging a #4 out and putting one together.

What did you pay for that if you don't mind?

I just got a No4 mk1 sporter, but with an uncut barrel. The goal is to hopefully one day dress it back up properly. I know there are kits, but I'd rather use original. But this is a future thing...

Sorry for that duplicate post there. I refreshed and my original one didn't show, so I thought something had gone wrong. Then I responded again, and it reappeared. Sounds like an issue on my end.

Sometimes you can find sets on the Equipment Exchange, or at gun shows, or estate sales. The other option is buying reproduction wood. Site sponsor Marstar carries repro wood (link to No4, but they also carry SMLE wood too)

I paid $200 for two complete sets of wood. I have since had another deal with the same fellow and picked up two more sets plus multiple bands and extra top wood. I now have to find the action and barrels for three of them. I just picked up an OL Long Branch Sunday which I just put together. First year Long Branch 1941. Wasn’t looking for Enfield wood when , went to buy the Parker 5C site.

Best way to track down history of a mrk 3 smle. Was made during the end of WW1 and was curious about where it served and who with. If anyone has any info on how to use the SIN to track down its history that would be helpful(believed to be Australian), thank you.

Kind of hard to track where it has been unless it has unit markings on it. If it is Australian it should have Lithgow printed under the bolt handle. The forearm will also have brass pins on each side of the action. Also the rear top wood will have two brass pins side to side. Sporterized or full wood. I see you just joined so can’t post pictures yet unless you buy a team membership. Pictures would help a lot. The stamps help identify what you have.

Its full wood has a brass pin after front sights, 2 pins between where the sight and and the actions begins then a brass pin directly above the trigger half way between trigger and action. nothing on the bolt except a arrow, the letter T, and G. something on the bolt ball but its is small an illegible. Some more marking on the under side of the stock right by the trigger looks like a D or a R then a C or G with a crown on top. I know im being very confusing probably but any help is much appreciated.

A couple of Enfields including my shooter on top of the case;
1918 dated SMLE III (no star). All features: volley sight, windage rear sight, mag cut off. Great bore, all Canadian marked at knox, butt stock, bolt handle, with numbers matching. 38 Btn disc Stamped.
Others:
1896 Lee Enfield I with as new bore, excellent wood and metal, M&D stamped.
1918 SMLE III* almost off the assembly line condition. C /|\ on knox and butt. Every number matches
1942 Long Branch No4 Mk1* 20L numbers.
1950 Long Branch 93L. As new grease everywhere, cause not shot since it left the lakeshore plant.

Everything on the wall is either Canadian made or marked, DC, M&D, C/|\, or styled arrow and shoots, except, the 203. I haven’t been able to source a D or CC made one…. Yet….:evil:

Both rebuilds, both Fazakerly. They are rebuilt with original non issued post WW2 wood.Front one is missing the front band which was getting cleaned up when the picture was taken. I have also added a Parker Hale 5C rear site which isn’t in the picture.
The jungle needed some attention when I received it. Front hand guard was cracked end to end. But stock was also completely cracked for end to end. The hand guard had some small pieces missing so the crack can be seen. The but repaire you have to know where the crack is to find it. The stock had already be sanded before I received it so minor sanding and a couple coats of Linseed oil to finish.
