Entry level Pistol IPSC

Where roughly are you in S. Ontario and which gun club are you a member of? Might be someone on here is a member, or would be willing to host you if you wanted to try a few pistols...I'm always game to let newbies try my gear for fit / feel, as are many others on this site...

Production - Shadow
Production Optics - Shadow with red dot
Standard - STI Edge
Classic - STI Trojan
Open - whatever your budget can survive :)
Revolver - SW 627 ........929 quality is a "hit-or-miss"

If you live close to Windsor go to General Gun & Supply. Ask for Robert and let him know what your intentions are. I am sure he will help you out. If you have Medium to Large hands then a used Shadow is within your grasp. If you have small hands look elsewhere.

Bear in mind you will have to spend another $150 for a holster and mag holders and likely need 3 more mags to get into IPSC.

If you are on a tight budget, then look at a M&P or Glock Range Kit. I have seen used M&P Range Kits go for around $500. You get a gun, holster, two mags and a double mag holder in the kit. You will need at least five mags and another double mag holder to complete your kit but you would be within your budget. Go have some fun. You will have all you need for IPSC and IDPA. As your finances improve you can decide if you want to invest more into the sport or not.

small hands run the Shadow or Shadow 2 (which is even better due to it's deeper cut in the beavertail and undercut of the trigger guard), Maria Guschina has tiny hands and runs the gun pretty good I'd say.

i belong to Lower Trent Valley fish and game glub based out of Frankfort.

Get ahold of Dave Landles and get him to add you to the LTV IPSC group. Lots of good people on there, and they get together to practice regularly. You will be able to check out different guns and pick their brains on what the best course of action is.

I would suggest she has more talent then most on this board and has learned to compensate for the longer reach. Just saying.

Hey chrisward3 did you mean over the forum? or through LTV?

If his focus is IPSC as the thread title suggests it's a problematic gun. It is not legal in Production or Production Optics and would be at a disadvantage in Standard.

This is 100% correct. SFx is an awesome pistol, but not the right pistol for IPSC. You will be stuck in Standard division shooting minor. Unless your shooting A's only and faster then heck you are at a fairly substantial disadvantage.

I can say this first hand :) But if your in it for the love of shooting have at her, fantastic pistol to own I would recommend it to everyone to at least try!

Start with a glock or shadow, both can be had used for a very reasonable price

Shoot for a year and reasses. Many people change guns or divisions but starting with inexpensive gear in production is not a bad approach. Lots out there don’t take it too seriously and you don’t need to spend over 1k if you just wanna have fun. If you get serious, upgrading the gun is the least of your expenses

Can you elaborate on this, in what ways?
My take on it
Within your budget and/or for shooting for fun G17 gen 5
If shooting to win, even if only winning within your class, in production, CZ shadow 2 or tanfo stock ll

After many years of shooting classic with 2500$+ guns,
I now shoot local only and for fun, and just love how much the gen 5 glock is accurate and easier to shoot than other gens

I was checking the buy and sell board at my Gun Club and someone is selling a Sig P230 for 650 with with 2 mags and a holster. the ad says only 100 round fired through the handgun. thoughts? or is just getting a shadow that much better?
