I have the SG540 wish I bought the 542 as well, Kelly's was selling them brand new for 1995.00. That was when there was very few NR black guns. But that has changed drastically, so I would imagine they will not sell for that price anymore
542 selling around 2900.00 to 3000.00 now and rail extra and ta extra
You could buy them brand new from Kelly's 6 months ago for 1995.00
Seems like it turned out to be yet another small batch import gun to canada unfortunately.
The complete lack of any support for a rifle with that high a price tag was the biggest factor in preventing me from picking one up all these years.
Which sucks because it's a great really cool rifle.
I was hoping the market would have been flooded with them and spare parts for days but this never turned out to be the case unfortunately.
I picked up my SG540 brand spanking new for $2000. To me that was a fair price but much above and it starts to become robbery.
I agree it would have been nice to see them priced attractively (instead of the original $3k) and sell a s#!t load of them. At $1700 - $1800 they would fly off the shelves.
Mine has been absolutely bomb proof reliable and doesn't suffer from all the problems the "latest and greatest" rifles on the market have.
Yes, the lack of parts support pisses me off. Thankfully I've not yet needed anything for it but it would be better knowing that if something did ever happen to go wrong my rifle wouldn't become a useless paperweight.
Aye. 100% agree.
But I know from owning two AR180b rifles years back and having a critical part fail I no longer have the stomach for a cool rifle with zero parts support.
That's one of the reasons I sold my SG542. Replacement parts were relatively expensive and you had few options to source them. Mine was the least reliable semi-auto I've owned so far....It loved to FTE or stovepipe (gas setting didn't matter) and the factory magazine follower liked to occasionally bind up causing feed issues. Which I wouldn't care if the 542 mags weren't $105....and my upper and lower had a pretty pronounced rattle to it after about 200 rounds, and it absolutely destroyed brass. It's possible mine was a lemon, I really loved the idea of the Famae rifles, they just fell short on execution unfortunately.
I heard the problem is/was famae wants even more for the rifles. They seem pretty delusional. I have a 540, 542, and saf. They're nice but overpriced.
