I began to wonder if four Questar 10 shot pistol magazines could be joined for use in sporting competitions and target shooting at the range. My first thought was to use a metal Marstar magazine joiner. I am a great fan of this joiner, as it is rigid, non slip when you insert a magazine hard, and easy to install. I recommend them. I quickly found out, however, that it was too large for use with such short magazines. I also had a First Samco magazine joiner and I noticed each band was narrow and a potential candidate for use.
For the record, I find the First Samco only passable for magazine joining. Sure, they work, but since they are made of plastic, they are also somewhat slick and so inserting one magazine hard can move the joiner a bit. It is also much higher than the Marstar unit, but could it be cut in half for use?
To make a Full Deck, the magazines are joined so that the followers face the same direction. Use tape with an ability to stretch tight. After taping the magazines, it was found that the tape hindered locking of the magazines without force. So, the tape needed to be cut down and shaped so that it follows the magazine well shape. Finding the right shape for the tape takes the longest time and keeping a template is a good idea.
Stretch the newly shaped tape around the magazine to join the two magazines. I then added a narrow band of tape around the circumference for added strength. The First Samco joiner can be cut in two easily with common scissors if that is all you have. Use a knife to trim excess plastic if you wish. You now have an extra Full Deck joiner for your next four magazines!
Place the joiner round the magazines where they meet. Insert the Full Deck into the lower, locking each magazine in turn, adjusting the band if needed. When all magazines lock easily, you have found the correct location for the joiner. Use a flat tipped screwdriver to tighten the joiner. That’s it! It works and it is fast. Enjoy.
