I was going to shoot this thing this weekend with a lot of fellow CGN'ers and didn't want any stupid questions over legality to come up.

I feel like a tool.

Stupid questions, eh?

Unfortunately, in this day and age, no one is just going to take your word for something like this. Especially given the track record of the CFC. Just because people ask questions that you don't want to like, doesn't make them stupid.

Hey, if the CFC sends you a registration certificate that says non-restricted, its all good right? Good 'ol registration system might be good for something afterall!

I think this might be the ticket. Just loose the Mossberg action.

^^^^^I like it! How much is going to be the next question, and do we get the folding forearm straight from Dlask? Good work if it survives the test of time....

I just want to make sure I understand this correctly.

1) These shotguns are non-restricted?
2) HOW CAN I GET ONE AND HOW MUCH? :D

Here is letter from CFC / RCMP:
Dear #########,
Thank you for your telephone call today with regard to the legal classification of the Remington 870 shotgun and the MCS system, ################################################xx ################################################xx ############. Short barreled pump action shotguns with folding stocks are controlled within the Criminal Code of Canada, and it specifically details that the firearm is reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by means of folding, telescoping or otherwise. The otherwise does not take into consideration replacement with commercially available stocks such as a pistol grip stocks. Thus it is very legal and does not change the class of a non semi automatic firearm if you put a manufactured short barrel and pistol grip on the gun.
################################################xx ################################################xx ################################################xx #######################################
I trust this response has met your needs, please feel free to call if I can be of any further assistance.
Regards,

Unfortunately, it's not within the authority of the RCMP to make this statement. The police are there to enforce the law, not interpret it. If a section of the law is unclear, it's the job of the courts to interpret the intent of the law. Unless this HAS been to the courts and he's just echoing their ruling here, I'd be very cautious.

The RCMP is in charge of enforcing the Firearms Act. If you have it in writing from the RCMP that the firearm is lawful, prosecuting you for it later would be entrapment.

No one said a single word about successfully being prosecuted. Whether you're prosecuted or not, if you get pulled over and this goes to court.... 99% chance you just lost your gun and you'll have some hefty legal fees.

Gotta love the armchair lawyers..... Let's just see how this plays out for the people that have already spent OVER A YEAR researching this before we all jump in with our "professional" opinions.... :p

I'm new, so I don't know how stuff like this usually works... I know about 12.6 and all of that, but what happens when a small ruling like this is reversed? Lets say, in theory, a gun was first ruled to be non-restricted/restricted but bad publicity leads the CFC to make them prohib... Are current owners exempted or does the RCMP show up to your door and demand access to your safe?
You can kiss that shotgun good bye if the ruling is changed to prohib staus

Actually, in this case the odds are if there was a later ruling prohibiting this configuration, you'd probably be able to restore it with a barrel change.

Just had a look at the pictures now posted in posting #1.

WOW!!!!!!!!

OK, the strap looks awkward, and I'm not sold on the picatinny rails, but the rest of the custom work looks nice.

What are the rails for? I think I'd like one without them for a bush defence gun, they look like they would hurt your hand when shooting the wee beasty. I'd also like an iron clad garantee that it is legal ;)

Unsure, but I was just imagining a Vertical Fore-Grip on the weak side and see it being much more comfortable to aim with. Damn, so many cool toys out these days.

Hot diggity this is like an overload for all of my senses.
I'm gunna have to get me one of these.
I don't care for the strap and rails though however, I would want mine a bit more stripped down.
Nice uniform forestock ect.
