You want to take odds on the guys coming into power after his inevitable demise being bigger, less-civilized and even more brutal and savage a$$holes??? I'm saying Libya turns into a combination of "Lord of the Flies" and "Beyond Thunderdome"...

Who runs barter town?

Anyone else notice the missing hand guard in the third pic? I would not want to fire that rifle for more then five rounds at a time, but its not like their in a war or anything so he should be OK.

There are few photos of the rebels with brand new nicely finished M-14s not the Chinese Copys.Did Italians sale for Ghadaffi M-14s meant for Canada?
Did Libya ever use FN FALs? How did they get to Libya, did Ghadaffi buy them and put into storage. Was he an FAL collector?

Libya never used FALs, if they did before 1969 they would not have plastic handguards.

I'd take socialist khadafi any day over rebel islamic sharia law fanatics, they will turn Libya into another "taliban psycho state"

Libya adopted the FAL, however, when Gaddafi took over they were stored and replaced by AKs.

Let's not forget the Air Defense Professionals. The free (Sharia Law) world can sleep soundly tonight with these stout fellows on the job. Nothing says "tactical" like walking around with the carrying handle up.

The brandnewness of the equipment is interesting. Maybe someone can give them a second mag. For when they get ammunition.

remember this is africa; it's just like alice's restaurant; those who go back that far know what i mean

SAS training Libya, paper claims

There is ongoing defence co-operation between the UK and Libya
An SAS team has been training Libyan special forces in counter-terrorism techniques, a newspaper claims.

The Daily Telegraph reports that a team of up to 14 men have been providing training in areas including covert surveillance for six months.

An SAS source quoted by the paper suggests a possible link between the training and the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi.

A Foreign Office spokesman said the suggestion of such a link was untrue.

The Ministry of Defence does not comment on special forces activities, and neither confirmed nor denied the Telegraph's report.

But defence sources said that if they were to undertake such training it would be for regular forces only, says BBC defence correspondent Caroline Wyatt.

'Rolling of eyes'

The Foreign Office says there is ongoing defence co-operation with Libya.

The Telegraph quoted an SAS soldier as saying: "The IRA was our greatest adversary now we are training their backers.

"There was a weary rolling of the eyes when we were told about this."

Tripoli supplied the IRA with weaponry during the Northern Ireland Troubles.

Megrahi, who has terminal prostate cancer, was freed on compassionate grounds by the Scottish Government last month.

He had been serving a minimum of 27 years in jail for carrying out the 1988 passenger plane bombing that claimed 270 lives.

The bomber was given a hero's welcome on his return to Libya.

Don't think so. There were pics of FNs right from the start of the uprising.

Either leftover from before the coup, or purchased later, or simply "aquired" over the years possible for arming others besides the Libyan army (IRA etc).
