Famae 542 Range report and photos (no stopages so far)

yeah, but CSC sold refurb SIG 550's as new "Specials" as well...hence the question.
we have only heard one side of that story and the other party has stayed quiet for a long time and recently apologised for his actions in contacting the RCMP on the matter. I will wait till copies of actual RCMP documents are posted in regards to who's rifles were illegal and caused the issue before taking a side. If that never happens the current and only version of the events is the one told by CSC and TV press pass which is that it was the TSE's own rifles were built on 550 recievers and will have to stand as the truth.

Regardless, ERE is the importer of these, not TSE, CSC or anyone else involved in the last fiasco, another dealer on here is selling the same rifles as well if you want to boycott.

From my understanding, the ones being brought in by tactical imports are being imported by TI themselves and are not ERE guns.
Interesting, does that mean TI has a different FRT because the current ERE imported rifles have ERE engraved in the receiver as part of the model...........

No we didn't.

We sold used rifles as used rifles.

The other allegations have taken on a life of their own but SAN has stated the guns were correct, and the RCMP have not treated them differently. The only person who is insisting they were different is JR.

they need to lower the price ! lower price = more rifle sold = harder to prohib !

harder to prohib?

Please, someone took a pen and wrote the FRT number of these rifles in the other column and voila!
Done!

But all joking aside, what is the difference betwen these rifles and the ones from swiss arms?

These are SG540s, not a SG550 (named prohib) or a variant of a named prohib. As such, the 540 is not subject to the scrutiny of the Swiss Arms.

I think it's important to note is that the Swiss Arms were not prohibited as a converted auto... It's prohib as a variant of a named prohib (SG550)

Having owned a SwissArms and now owning the SG542 I can clearly see that the SwissArms is a descendent of the SG542, some obvious differences are:

- butt stock and how it attaches to the lower receiver
- bolt hold open (part to upper receiver on SG542 and part of lower on PE90)
- gas block and front sight (complete unit is moved to disassemble gas system on SG542, fixed in place on PE90)
- sights (front and rear are different design and don't have night sights)
- bipod and attachment of it are different

In general these differences are improvements in the PE90 compared to the SG542, I don't think that anyone could argue that the SG542 was a copy of the PE90, it is the other way around.

I have had a couple of PE90's, and I soon came to think of them as highly overrated guns...but I lost track of the number of times I said something along the lines of "If this thing were in .308, man, what a great gun it would be..."

And less expensive to boot! Hmmm...:)

You know what you have to do. :)

Interesting.

Shooting at close to -30c with frosty glasses didn't lend itself to groups just yet. I've mounted another scope lower on the rifle and hope to try this weekend.
