Favorite 16 gauge shotguns

Nice ,,but that safety on the side would drive me crazy ,especially upland hunting without my pointer,:)

I have owned 2 16 gauge guns. The first was a Parker 0 frame VH the second was a Beretta PB 409. The Parker was a joy to carry and shoot but I shot the Beretta better and the quality I would say was better. Sadly I sold the Beretta to a fellow on this site and the Parker to a fellow who offered me more money than I could turn down.

As far as pumps go I have never owned a 16 gauge Ithaca 37 but I have owned a couple of 20 gauge. I found the room inside the trigger guard was not large enough for my finger while wearing gloves. I believe the 16 gauge is the same. On the other hand there is more than enough room for my finger on my 20 gauge Beretta BL3. It weighs 5 pounds 13 ounces on a postal scale.

Have a Remington model 31 in 16 gauge that I really like. Built on 20 gauge frame. Nice handling pump, super smooth. Like it better than model 12 Winchester I owned.

I have a Remington 31 in 16 gauge as well. What a lovely shotgun for upland game birds. Smooth as silk, light weight, and easy to take down. It was gifted to me by the father of a good friend who passed way too young. He said it should go to someone who would use it. I try to get it out for a grouse hunt each year.

When this thread started (and I posted in it) a few months ago, I had bought a new to me 16 gauge guild gun SxS made in Ferlach in 1925 but not yet received it back from my gunsmith who was correcting a few very minor issues. Since then I have bought three more 16 gauges, all vintage SxS. (I needed some new things for the annual Upper Canada SxS Classic next June). I now have the first one at home. The second one is at the smith's........like the first just getting a little spiffed up. The other two i am awaiting delivery from the sellers.

While 2023 was the year for buying 16 gauges, I think 2024 will be the year of me determining which one of them is my favourite! Laugh2

I just bought another one too. Picked up a Belgian auto 5 in 16. It’s a solid rib but not a “sweet”. Nice condition and works perfectly. I took a couple roosters with it last week. Kinda heavy…

Two of the 16s are 29” barrels and 6.5 pounds, one is 29” barrel and 6 pounds even. And the last is 28” barrel and just under 5,75 pounds. So two average weight, one light and one really freaking light.

Those are great carry weights. My auto 5 is 8lbs…

I have a Holland and Holland 16 gauge hammerless single shot. Two Webley and Scott’s (straight grip and prince of Wales imported by Abercrombie & Fitch, two serial numbers apart), two Liegeoise de armas et feu sxs 16s, two Savage Model 220 hammerless singles and a Steven’s model 94 hammer single shot. They are all fun to shoot. The H&H does well with 2 1/2 in paper shells.

Oh that Holland hammerless single shot makes me short of breath! Love single shot game guns as only the English can make them!.

I got it from Vintage Doubles at Wenatchee in 2019. It’s the only style of Holland&Holland i can afford. I am a sucker for hammerless single shots. I have about 11 Savage 220’s i have restored. Two are in the elusive 28 gauge.

Just waiting for my 16x16/9.3X72R to get back from PR Precision, it's a great little uland gun!
Dilly, I think I sold you a model 12 in 16 years ago, that you found out had a messed up breach block?
Both of us were quite surprised when you found out as it as a good shooter IIRC!:p
