Have a Remington model 31 in 16 gauge that I really like. Built on 20 gauge frame. Nice handling pump, super smooth. Like it better than model 12 Winchester I owned.
When this thread started (and I posted in it) a few months ago, I had bought a new to me 16 gauge guild gun SxS made in Ferlach in 1925 but not yet received it back from my gunsmith who was correcting a few very minor issues. Since then I have bought three more 16 gauges, all vintage SxS. (I needed some new things for the annual Upper Canada SxS Classic next June). I now have the first one at home. The second one is at the smith's........like the first just getting a little spiffed up. The other two i am awaiting delivery from the sellers.
While 2023 was the year for buying 16 gauges, I think 2024 will be the year of me determining which one of them is my favourite!![]()
I just bought another one too. Picked up a Belgian auto 5 in 16. It’s a solid rib but not a “sweet”. Nice condition and works perfectly. I took a couple roosters with it last week. Kinda heavy…
Those are great carry weights. My auto 5 is 8lbs…Two of the 16s are 29” barrels and 6.5 pounds, one is 29” barrel and 6 pounds even. And the last is 28” barrel and just under 5,75 pounds. So two average weight, one light and one really freaking light.
I have a Holland and Holland 16 gauge hammerless single shot. Two Webley and Scott’s (straight grip and prince of Wales imported by Abercrombie & Fitch, two serial numbers apart), two Liegeoise de armas et feu sxs 16s, two Savage Model 220 hammerless singles and a Steven’s model 94 hammer single shot. They are all fun to shoot. The H&H does well with 2 1/2 in paper shells.
Oh that Holland hammerless single shot makes me short of breath! Love single shot game guns as only the English can make them!.
Love that one![]()
