Favorite 16 gauge shotguns

Dilly, I think I sold you a model 12 in 16 years ago, that you found out had a messed up breach block?
Both of us were quite surprised when you found out as it as a good shooter IIRC!:p

Yeah, that was my first model 12. The breech block was fine, just dirty. I cleaned it up and restored it completely. Made it into a “black diamond” copy with a straight stock. Sold it to a member here.

What's everyones favourite 16 gauge shotguns? I'm shooting a Citori Feather Lightening in 16 gauge. I originally bought it as a partridge gun. I'm considering picking up something else for deep woods rabbits so the citori doesn't get too scratched up. Share any picture of your favourite if you have them.

I have 2 favoutite 16 ga. shotguns. A Winchester Model 21 & an ithaca Flues.

It's hard to choose a favourite. I have a few. The one I use the most is a rather plain Browning Citori White Lightning. Many days carrying that one and following my pointers around the prairie. And then there's the most artistic, a nice little SxS double, exposed hammer Italian/ German gun of unknown provenance. It has two sets of barrels 32" and 28" and manages to stay below 6 lbs with the shorter tubes. Artistic and deadly on game. A Krieghoff drilling gets the most points for versatility, and I've taken all sorts of game big and small with that one. Same goes for a Merkel two barrel set, which I've used the most as a shotgun/rifle combo with the 4x scope and 7x57R barrels fitted. But I've shot a lot of huns and pheasant with it as an O/U shotgun too. I tried a Winchester M12, but it didn't fit me well. A Gaspar Arizaga that i owned for a while was the only recent dissapointment, it also didn't fit me well. I am a committed, certified looney 16 ga. enthusiast.

The only 16 gauge I have is an Else Smith, MFG 1901 A.D. The shotgun was totally restored by Ralf Martini, Martin Hagn and Doug Turnbull. Last date this shotgun was used, 12 years ago. We generally hunt with 12 and 20 gauge shotguns, therefore the 16 remains idle in the safe. The Else is the bottom gun. Thirty inch barrels, full/mod, rust blue barrels, case colouring, refurbished stocks, recheckered and leather wrapped recoil pad.
