I have arrowed several blackies and I must say, when properly done they die amazingly fast...........faster I believe than the same placement with a rifle.

I'd someday like to use my crossbow on one but I just love my rifles to much. Living in an archery and one week muzzleloader area for deer I don't get to hunt with my larger rifles very often
Besides the wife still believes i still haven't found the perfect rifle yet so I have to hunt with any new rifle

I would have to pick the 30-06, since in my hands, this chambering has taken over 100 Black Bears.

Many of these were shot as "bear control", but the venerable 30-06 acquitted itself well in 99% of all cases.

I have shot a couple with big 30's, and 2 or 3 with the 7x57. Black bears are not particularly difficult to kill, IMHO.

I use .308 Win for all my big game hunting. Bullets vary from 150 - 180gr reloads (usually hornady).

I have shot a couple of black bears with my 308 BLR using 168 grain ballistis silvertipa
, both were shot at around 100 yards. One dropped 20 feet away the other went about 100 feet.

Smallest I've used is a .223 with 53gr bullet. I've used quite a variety of guns including shotguns with slugs and buckshot.
