Favorite gopher gun

My old 243 AI did a number on gophers, 107gr SMKs at 3200 fps would vaporize them.

For 22s my BRNO #5 gets most of the action, Savage Mark II BV a close second.

Stevens 200-223 and Rem SPS Tactical 223 are my current CF gopher gitters.

Curious how a 175gr SMK performs on gophers, will test some this spring

I had a remington 700 varminter in .222 with a leupold fixed 12x. It was one hell of a good rig.

Cheap to shoot and long barrel life.

Nice Sako. I have the sister to that one but re-barreled with a Gaillard stainless. 6.5X20 Leupold LR for optics. One heck of a fine gopher gun...prairie dogs, crows, magpies...and whatever other small pest critters that I can find! 222's easy on barrels...the factory went over 10k rounds and cheap to shoot as well.

This Spring I will take my "new" 1960 Mossy 144lsb to the fields, last 2 years are the 1940 Marlin 81, Lakefield Mark II and 1947 Mossy 151. the long shots are handled by the BSA .222 or Browning .270 loaded with 100 grainers at 3200 fps...instant vaporization.

I shoot 'em 4 hour drive away, 10 days at a time so I do take "extras".

Ruger 10/22 hb, savage 17hmr, and this year ruger .22 k hornet with 35 gr vmax. Might use some left over 40 gr hollow points in my .223 cz varmint.

Current fave is a Marlin 880SQ in .22LR

i use my 10/22 with a butler creek .920 barrel and a houge stock. but my wife's been shooting a 880sq for 9 or 10 years now, what a great little rifle.

That is one of the best gopher guns I have ever used!!
I also use a 17mach2 in a marlin semi and my Henry lever 22mag.

My current favorite is a Browning Benchmark varmint, man is that thing accurate for a semi auto, 2nd would have to be the Cooper in Mach II, 3rd would be the Hornet from CZ, and 4th will be the CZ in a 19 Calhoon, 5,6,&7 will be the CZ's in Full stock, varmint and American.
That should round out a weekend of non stop gopher eradication. FS

Tikka tactical in 223, tikka varmint in 22-250, Ruger 10/22 in 17 Mach 2, CZ Varmint in 223, but my favourite was a Tikka 595HB in 17 Rem. I sold it but desperately looking for another!!!!

I will have another 17 for this spring yet!

Mine is an old Remington Target Master re-done by some past gunsmith into .22 magnum. It was never offered in that calibre by the factory, so whoever did the work did a lovely job. Note the rosewood forend and grip cap with white line spacers. And it shoots pretty good as well.
