Firearms restrictions being proposed in Alberta.

The ABP are feeling the heat. Keep the burners on, gents, and start eating anything else but beef. That letter they posted sounds like they're trying to direct blame to everyone else but themselves, but they are responsible for any actions taken by any of their sub committiees conected to the ABP. I'm sure the ABP knows full well what all their sub committiees are doing, and nothing goes forward without first getting their aproval of the ABP.

Also, when I called the ABP they said "YES. THEY ARE THE ONES PUSHING THIS FORWARD" Now they are trying to backpeddle from the responsiblity of the #### storm and boycott that has begun.

KEEP THE HEAT ON THEM. Seems like they have no intentions of stopping the proposal.

From the people I've talked to I honestly don't think they were aware of this. By people I mean directors and area rep type people. I do expect the ABP to take responsibility for it now that they know about it, withdraw the proposal and see those responsible removed from their positions. Coming out with something like that should show how out of touch this group has to be with beef producers, and as such they should no longer be representing them.

I agree with keeping the heat on them, and if they don't withdraw the proposal, and ditch those they are blaming in short order, I will take it that they are accepting this as being a proposal they do support, and be leading the charge on sinking the entire organization.

I should point out that the people I know fighting this the hardest are the beef producers in this area, so I would hold short on a beef boycott for a day or so, if they don't get this rectified, then it's time to get more drastic, but even their own membership is as upset as we are about this.

Too bad the ABP is blowing all the money they have spent on advertising over the years in a few days because of a few idiots.

Nice rant. I will remind my two relatives how rich they are and spoiled with government handouts. Painting all farmers with a broad brush eh....and you get upset when someone brands all gun owners the same....particularly for the action of some poachers...

Please read the letter from the ABP posted by SCAR below....they are concerned about truck hunters and are putting the proposal forward for discussion...

Farming is a business not a right. Can't cut it sell and move on just like any other businessman. Do you get all your GST back every year? Farmers and Natives do, I don't. Do you get a tax break on your fuel? Farmers and Natives do, I don't.

I don't like road hunters either. But to let some businessmen TELL the government to add more restrictions to ALL hunters is total crap. I'm already gathering some non-steak recipes for the BBQ for this summer. I think some of those ABP retards contracted bovine spongiform encephalopathy from eating their own BSE tainted cattle. Screw'em.

Well clearly you have your biases. As I said, I will remind my spoiled and rich family members who are farmers how good they have it. Glad you have it all figured out with emotion to boot.

The point is that this is but one part of a consultive process with stakeholders who I will remind you represent a significant number of hunters in the province via their membership. We have a consultive process for regulatory change....I don't know many provinces that have something similar. So they have a suggestion to deal with a PROBLEM they are experienced. The cool heads in the stakeholders process will look at the problem and see if there are reasonable solutions. It is a two year process and is examined based on the problem, not just the proposed suggestion. You #####ing about how good the farmers have it, is not going to resolve the problem at hand is it? We can all vent on issues that are near and dear to our heart however, lets understand the question and the potential answer before we get too excited. Join one of the many stakeholder organizations and participate in the process. At least in our province, hunters get an opportunity to reflect on the changes, unlike other provinces that wake up with new regs and policy without consultation...

Once again. Do you have a suggestion?

Yes, I believe I have mentioned it a couple of times in my posts. Increased enforcement...

What are your suggestions?

I'd suggest fixing this problem is akin to peeing up a rope. But I would also suggest this problem is less of a problem than it was 15 years ago and much of it is self inflicted.

You speak in riddles....

The problem is the land owners fault? Is that what your suggesting? I am not following...

Response from ABP

I just received the form letter response from Rich, I replied with some understanding of the issue, and a suggestion of more participation of their membership in programs like Crime stoppers, Report a Poacher, and Range Patrol.

I noticed the email came from his email address, not the abp feedback email. Ensure you cc this email as well, so they all know how many letters are being sent.

Keep the heat on Boys!

Exactly. How can we even hope to pound any sense into a poachers head.
I know up at home, the problems have stayed pretty much the same over the last 20 years. Back then a Pastor from the bright lights shot up a herd of elk on our place while I was out feeding the calves, right from the road. He got charged....
....next year he did the same thing again only two miles north of us.

Last year some complete moron belw away a Great Gray Owl on our lease, what's up with that!? Shot from the window of his truck of course. Almost caught that little bugger.

This past season the neighbor decided to chase the elk he winged across our place on his Rhino without asking. He just laughed when Dad told him I reported it. Yet another neighbor decides he needs to hunt on our place whenever he wants and thinks he's so sneaky about it, I find quad tracks and chain sawed logs leading right to his place and the hide still in the trailer on his side of the fence.

It comes down to integrity, something very few people care to use.

We need to be getting the next generation whipped into shape, they are the future of our sport if it isn't already too late.
My five and six year old are already in training. I just hope the teacher points them the right way.

I'm saying they are good at calling the kettle black. How's that for a riddle?

I guess you got it figured. For me, I can't lump all the farmers into one pile so easily as you. Makes it easy for us to simplify the issue and focus our concerns but I think the problem is a little more complicated than that. I think there is an issue with truck hunting, I have observed it first hand and cleaned up after it first hand. I however don't think new legislation is the solution. New enforcement efforts I think might help resolve the concerns....

I'm not lumping anyone into a pile, but I am not so blind as to see things as they are.

Noel, sounds like you got it in for your neighbors. Why not live and let live. A guy going after an elk can't be a bad thing, can it? I do not see a problem Noel. Try being nice to your neighbors. Give them access. Might be a good thing for all.

New letter to these idiots.

Thanks for that Rich,

According to this your group is going to carry on in the same vein as you started out. Nothing has changed your pursuit of this new rule. Nothing has changed in my pursuit of rallying against the ABP. I will still be requesting my checkoff money back and will still be encouraging other producers to do the same. I wish you the best in your endeavors, 35000 beef producers vs 100000 hunting licenses.
